Green Water, Green Water, and the bite is on.  The redfish are stacked up and  and the trout bite has just turned on.  Book your trips now.

12-22-07

Well we just had another front come through and drop our tides dramatically. This usually makes it easy for us and the last few days has been no exception. Quick limits of redfish have been easy. Today my good friend Art Troscher was down from Houston and the last two days and he wanted to get in on the action and we did. Quick limits of good solid fish. Todays photo is showing how low the tides have fallen. Even the raccoon is taking advantage of it. The second photo is of Art with some nice reds.

12-01-07

Today I had a two boat group with the Chihal family. I had James Chihal, his daughter Lauren and her fiance Alan. We headed up north to San Antonio bay where I fished yesterday. We were using live shrimp under a popping cork and Berkley Gulps under a cork. James definately had the hot hand today. He was hooked up cast after cast. A lot of undersized fish up here but every sixth or seventh fish is a nice keeper. What was even more amazing is that we were catching trout after trout and then we would catch fresh water channel cats on the same reef on artificial bait. We ended up with a good box of trout plus 18 or so nice channel cats and a few drum. And yes we pulled off the victory against the other boat that had Mr. Chihals two sons on it. Today was a first for me today. This was the first time I had a NCAA champion on my boat. Lauren is a NCAA champion Equestrian. Great accomplishment even if she is an AGGIE !!!!  I had a great time with this family and I hope I get the opportunity to fish with them again. From what I saw Lauren and Alan are a great match and will share a lot of great outdoor memories together.

11-30-07

I had my good friend and client Curt Dimmick the last two days. Strong winds the first day so I opted to stay in the flats and look for redfish. Managed only one keeper and a few drum and ALOT of undersized reds. Today we headed up north to San Antonio bay. Again tons of undersized fish but not many keepers.

11-27-07

Well my group cancelled for today so I decided to head out and doing a little wade fishing myself today. I headed back to the same reefs where my guys caught them the day before. Today these reefs were all covered with oyster boats. Every reef I fished yesterday had oyster boats on them. Its that time of year. Oh well we will switch to plan B. I then headed to the back of Copano bay to look around. Alot of bird activity back there and lots of trout in them. A lot of little fish but enough keepers to keep you there. Todays photo if of the oyster boats working just one of my reefs.

11-25-07

Well I had the James Giles group today. The guys are hard core waders and play catch and release only so I headed up north. We spent our morning working shell in Mesquite and Carlos bay. Found trout on every reef today. Their estimate was around 100 fish total with probably 40 or so being solid keepers. Its nice to see clients play catch and release. Great day with excellent fisherman. Ill be heading back up there in two days.

11-24-07

Today I was supposed to have a new client Chuck Radar. The story today is still the weather. Cold weather, strong north winds, and rain today. Not a good combination. We will try again another day.

11-23-07

Well we waited until around 9 or so today hoping the weather would improve. Cold temperatures and strong north wind still. We attempted to head out for a few hours. The kids were stir crazy and ready to give it a try. I knew it would be tough especially since the tide did not drop. Managed one nice red before the kids got cold and we headed back. Mother nature is just not cooperating this week.

11-22-07

Today I was supposed to have the Heatons from Houston. If you recall the Thanksgiving report from last year this family smoked the redfish. We had our 18 slot fish and a couple oversized by 10 am last year. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate this year. Strong north winds kept us off the water today. We will try again tomorrow.

11-20-07

Today I had one of my repeat clients Virgil Hayes and his wife. She usually out fishes him and today was no exception. Virgil got off to the quick start with a nice 26 in fish but then it was all Mrs. Hayes. The bite was not fast and furious on the reds but we managed to get our limit and Mrs. Hayes also caught the biggest with a nice 27 in fish. We then headed to Yucca Cut to look for some black drum. They were definately in there but we had trouble hooking them today. ALOT of misses and Virgil lost three really big ones. Great day on the water with good folks. And yes once again the ladies ruled !!! Todays photos are of Mrs. Hayes with her nice 27 in fish, Virgil with his "NICE" catch of the day and the final catch of the day photo.

11-17-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge. I had waders today so it was nice for a change of pace to get back in the water. I headed to an area we called super flats. The bite was not fast and furious but steady enough to get a good box of fish. Our first wade produced 12 solid trout. We then made a couple moves only picking up a couple fish so I headed back to where we started. We picked up a few more fish and ended up with 20 or so. Best bait was 4 in Berkley gulp in new penny color. These are great baits.

11-16-07

Today I had Lloyd Jary and his wife Sissy from San Antonio. I was shocked today when I arrived at the dock and saw that the tide came up. With the north wind still blowing I expected the tide to stay down for a few days. Due to the tide change the fishing would not be near as easy as it was yesterday. We worked hard and managed some really nice fish today. We did fall one short of our limit but we had the opportunities but missed a few. Sissy definately out fished Lloyd today so once again the ladies ruled !!! Nice job Sissy. Sorry no photos the last couple of days. Camera out.

11-15-07

Well today I had James Robinson and Max Kimble from Dallas. The front came through and the tides dropped so yes it was on. We did not head out until around 8 today and we were limited by 8:30 and then caught and released another 15 nice slot reds before calling it a day and getting out of the extremely windy conditions. Far cry from yesterday. Looking forward to tomorrow !!!

11-14-07

Today I had Randy Schulte and Don Martinez. Randy has had some bad breaks with the weather the last couple of times. Today the weather cooperated but the fish did not. We spent the day drifting throwing piggies and shrimp. We managed only 9 keepers today with some undersize trout and reds. Today was one of those days going in I knew it would be tough. High pressure system sitting above us ahead of a front. This usually means tough conditions. Randy did put it on us today catching most of the keeper fish. I often say that conditions play a major role in our success or lack of and today was one of those days. Barometric pressure will drop tomorrow and it should be on. We will see.

11-10-07

Today I had Mike Leonard, his brother Mark, his father JD and brother in law Troy. If you recall from previous reports I have fished Mike's wife Elsa on several company trips and she has ruled with the big fish of the group. We started drifting today but it was very slow to put it mildly. Several reasons were playing a factor. For one our piggy perch are coming to an end and the perch are still hampering our shrimp and popping cork efforts. Add in no tide movement early and you know it is going to be slow. We managed quite a few undersize trout but only a few keepers. Then the tide started dropping so I changed strategies and ran to one of the "guts" that I like during a falling tide. It didnt take long and Troy was hooked up with a nice 25 in red. Troy continued with the hot hand and managed his limit and definately put it on the Leonard's today. Of course Im not sure if that is a good thing to beat your father in law !!! It was not fast and furious but we managed to pull 6 nice reds before calling it a day.

11-07-07

Today I had Diane Culpepper and Randy Suhl from the Houston area. We were greeted with strong north winds today and temperature in the mid 50's. I was hoping the tide had fallen out with the front but not enough. Our first stop we made one long drift which produced only one undersized red for Randy. It was tough drifting so I headed to one of my favorite north wind spots to do some anchoring up. Diane got on the board first with a nice 24 in fish. Of course that was after she missed one and broke one off. Then Randy topped her with a nice 26 in fish. We then made a slight move and boxed a couple more nice fish and had to make one more move to finish up our limit. We had an early dock time today so in conditions like these to get our limit by 11:00 am , Ill take it. Once again the ladies ruled !!! Diane caught the most keepers today but Randy did catch the largest. I had a great time with these two and they both did a great job under tough conditions. Todays photos are of Diane with a nice redfish on and then Diane and Randy holding two of their limit. I think Diane's smile says it all !!!!

11-01-07

Well today I had Austin Pichot, Matt Huie, and Jim Sugarek from the Beeville area. These guys were referrals from another guide so the pressure was on. I was anxious to head back up north since the trout bite was so good but these guys wanted redfish so I opted to fish south. We were fogged in for an hour or so and finally made it out so we could at least drift some in the fog. We managed only one red and a couple trout before the fog finally lifted. I then ran to the back side of Mud Island to an area with these tides that I was certain would be holding fish. Not a single bite in here today. I still think they were there, just not eating. I could see that these guys were thinking that today was going to suck. I then made a long run to a flat that I like ,again in this tide situation. The tide started to move slightly and that was all it took. We managed four nice reds on our first drift and yes missed a couple. The next couple drifts were not quite as productive but we would pick up one or two on each short drift. We managed our limit of reds plus a couple more trout. Kinda saved this one today. These were great guys and I can assure you all of grief was given by all. Todays photo is of the final catch of the day.

10-30-07

Today I headed up north to see if the trout bite has gotten better. Ive been telling my clients for the last month that we are close and I was right. We fished mid bay reefs today and quickly had our limit. We had to pick through a lot of undersize fish but still plenty of solid keepers. Just about every reef we went to had fish. It amazes me that these trout are here. Even though the water is clearing up it is still very fresh. That is proven by the fact that we also caught 10 freshwater blue cats on the same reef. Nice bonus fish.

10-28-07

Today I was fishing for the Redfish Lodge. It was day two for this group and today I had Dave Satterthwaite and Dennis Wiggs. With both names starting with D's I quickly named them the Double D's !!!!! These guys had a tough day yesterday so I was anxious to put them on some fish. Our first stop we managed 3 nice keepers and broke off a couple nice fish. It was not fast and furious but enough to make me stick it out for a while. The boat traffic was horrible again today. The tide finally started dropping and I headed to stop number two and what a stop it was. We quickly got them the bite going. We quickly limited plus released some very nice fish before I relinquished our spot to another boat that was part of this group. We barely got 20 yards away when the other boat hooked up. We then moved to another spot and as I eased the anchor in the water I told them that they were here also. You could smell the "Sweet" smell of feeding fish. It was not long and we were hooked up again. Great day on the water with great guys. A lot of grief was handed out by all. Today photos are of Dave with a nice red on, then Dennis battling a nice fish and the both Dave and Dennis holding two of their limit of reds.

10-27-07

Today I had the Shaw's again. This time Bonner and Austin's dad Stuart joined us. The north wind was really cranking again and the water temps dropped to the low 60's. This made for a tough bite and we struggled today. We managed only one red and a few trout. We did miss a few fish due to a sluggish bite. Im glad the kids had a good day yesterday since it was tough today.

10-26-07

Today I had my good client Steven Shaw. He brought his nephews Bonner and Austin with him today. When I have kids I always hope for that good experience for them. Well our tides came up a little but our fish are still there. The fishing pressure is getting to them though so the bite is a lot slower. We worked hard today but managed our limit of reds plus some nice trout and one flounder. Austin managed the Texas Slam by catching all three species. Way to go Austin !!! These guys did a great job today under some pretty tough north wind conditions. Ill have them again tomorrow. Todays photo is of Bonner and Austin with the final catch of the day photo.

10-24-07

Well the tides dropped even lower today and that made it even easier than yesterday. Today I had Chuck Johnson and Patrick Carroll from Houston. We got off to a slow start as far as boxing fish today. We had a lot of misses and a lot of break offs thanks to the help of a pvc pipe covered with barnacles. But the current changed just enough to force the fish in a different direction and it was on to say the least. The guys finally got in the groove and it was fish after fish after fish. We quickly had our limit and I cant tell you how many we released. I would guess at least 15 or so and this was all before 9:00. We had an early ramp time today so we made a couple short stops looking for trout but to no avail. These guys did a great job today. As much as we all like easy days like today there is a major down side. EVERYONE knows where the fish are and if the tides don't come up for 4 or 5 days which I don't think they will we will take ALOT of fish during this period. Todays photos are of Chuck with a nice fish on, Chuck with a redfish that we released, Patrick with another nice fish on, and the final catch of the day photo.

10-23-07

Well today the skies cleared somewhat and the north wind was still blowing but the tide dropped about 18 inches with the front. I have been so ready for this. I was excited about today because I knew it should be easy. The tide was still falling when we left the dock so I did not want to head straight to one of my favorite low tide spots. I did not want to get there until it had stopped dropping so I opted to make a few drifts first. I saw a couple slicks pop up as I was idling so we started our drift and quickly picked up 4 keepers and a few undersize. The next few drifts produced only one large trout. So I headed to the honey hole and as expected they were there. We quickly limited out and I just sat back and watched them catch fish after fish with several doubles on at a time. Im not sure how many these guys released before I quietly idled out of there. It does not get much better than today and it should remain this way for awhile. You always here the saying "You should have been here yesterday" well today was yesterday !! Today was a prime example of how conditions play an important role in our success. Todays photos are of Todd fighting a nice fish. Then Todd with a nice 26 in fish and the final catch of the day photo. And yes Im excited about tomorrow.

10-22-07

Well as expected the front blew in strong today. Unfortunately if arrived a couple hours earlier than expected and we did not wet a line today. Just about the time we made our first stop the skies opened up and the lightning and thunder began with the 30-45 mph winds not far behind. I had my good client Curt Dimmick and Todd Noles today but fortunately they are fishing with me tomorrow and I can assure you it will be ON !!!!!!

10-21-07

Today I was fishing for the Lodge again and I had John Cadena, Kevin and Dan. I have fished John before and this guy keeps me laughing all day. They had a slow day the day before so I was hoping to make up for that. We had a good bite today especially compared to yesterday. Little boat traffic today so that made a HUGE difference. We drifted again today using piggies. We managed 8 of our nine reds and a few solid trout before having to call it a day. Of course we should have had our limit plus a few but we definately had some solid misses and losses. I cant tell you what a great time we had. Im still hurting from laughing so much. Todays photo is of three of the nice reds we caught today. A hard front expected tomorrow and I cant wait. The fishing is going to go from good to great, trust me.  (John-I cant find your email address so email me so I can send the pics to you )

10-20-07

Today I had John Laurie group from RangerAmerican. The fishing had been great all week but how quickly things can change. All the areas I had been catching fish were covered up with boats. It looked liked a holiday weekend today. These guys really worked hard but we managed only one keeper red and three trout. Its days like these that really bother me. These are good guys and avid outdoorsmen and I could just not get on them today. A couple good boxes came to the docks today but everyone else struggled like we did. I definately will get these guys back down so I can make it up to them. Todays photo is of something I have never seen before. A kayak towing in a Majek Illusion. I could not resist the photo op.

10-19-07

Today I was fishing as part of a company group for Insco out of San Antonio. I have had the pleasure to fish this group for a couple years now and they always send great people and today was no exception. We spent our day drifting with piggies again. We had a VERY hard north wind most of the day today then it shifted to the East. We got our limit of reds today plus managed about a dozen nice trout also. And yes once again we all had our fair share of misses. A very good day considering the horrible conditions. We worked hard today but it paid off.

10-18-07

I wish fishing for Redfish Lodge again today and I had the pleasure of fishing with Chris Underbrink and Ewing King. We were targeting redfish again today. We spent our morning drifting with piggies. It was not fast and furious but we managed our limit of reds and a few trout and of course all of us missed some. These guys were great and we definately had a lot of laughs today. Todays photo is of Chris and Ewing with two of their nice reds.

10-17-07

Today I had Willie Miller and his father in law Dominick Liporata from New Mexico. A lot of wind changes today and it really blew a lot from all directions. We lost a couple nice fish early. The bite was not fast to say the least. We were scratching out some nice trout though. Finally, Willie got us on the board with a nice red. I then moved to a belly of a pocket that I like in these high winds. Willie got on a roll and landed three more nice keepers in here. I then made one more move and Dominick got in the game and landed some nice fish as well. We managed our limit of reds plus 8 or so nice trout. Not fast today but we worked hard and managed a nice box of fish. These were great guys and I really enjoyed fishing with them. And I wont mention the details of Willie's "incident". Hope they make the trip back to Texas again next year. Todays photos are of Willie with the first red of the day, Dominick with a nice red on and of course the final catch of the day.

10-16-07

Unexpected day off today. One of my guys was sick and the other one had a business matter to take care of so I got a paid day off. That gave me a chance to get some minor repairs done on my boat.

10-14-07

Today I had a group of ladies for Redfish Lodge that were here with Bison Building Products. We had a significant weather change and it definately hampered our efforts. I spent most of the day in St. Charles and Sundown Bay. Everyone struggled today for some reason. These ladies fished yesterday and caught a lot of undersized fish but not many keepers. We lost a couple nice fish today but Blanch caught her first keeper redfish so that was the bright side of a dismal day. Todays photo is of Blanch with her first keeper redfish.

10-13-07

Today I had a five boat company group for ABC of San Antonio. My good friend and client Steven Schultz heads up this group and it is always a pleasure fishing with them. Today I had Ben, Charlie, Michelle, and Cathy. We drifted today using piggies. The bite was slow to say the least for everyone. There was extreme boat pressure today for some reason which hampered our efforts. We worked extremely hard and managed 9 reds and 6 or 7 trout. We lost a couple nice fish and broke off a couple that hurt us as well. Michelle once again had the hot hand. She managed her limit of reds, plus the largest of the day on our boat. If you recall she fished with the guys in August and kicked their but then too. Cathy managed two reds also, so once again the girls ruled !!!!!! Sorry guys the truth hurts some time. We had a lot of fun today despite the slow bite but we managed a good box. We did get beat out for large redfish and trout by pne of the other boats. Congratulations to them. Todays photo is of my group with 4 of their nice reds.

10-12-07

Today I had my good client Douglas Kuenstler. He brought Paul Rabago and Ron Moore with him today. Paul has fished with me before but this was Ron's first time so the pressure was on. I was teasing these guys at the dock that I wanted to be limited on reds by 10:00 am. It took a couple drifts to find the fish but once I found the line we were on them. Unfortunately some other guide boats saw us and they immediately got on our line preventing me from making the same drift. We got our limit by 10:30 and released a few. We then looked for trout and found a lot of undersize with a few keepers. Great day on the water with good people. Todays photos are of Doug with a nice redfish on and the final catch of the day photos.

10-11-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge again. I had headed back to St. Charles today again. We struggled at first but we finally got on a good school of reds and it was on. We quickly limited and released a lot more before finally easing out of there. We spent the rest of the day looking for trout but only found a couple keepers. Im heading back down south tomorrow.

10-10-07

Today was day two for the group and I had Mike again but this time he had Rick Fitzgerald with him. Kind of like yesterday, first two stops nothing then I headed to the spot where we lit um up yesterday and they were still there. If you are wondering why I did not go there first where here is the reason. It is a tide thing. These fish are not there until the tides starts to drop and the bait pushes out from the back lake. If we went there first we would not have gotten a bite and left the spot before the bite was on. We got our limit plus released some really nice fish and quite a few undersize and yes we missed our fair share as well. Not bad considering we had to quit by 10 am so they could catch a flight out. Great day on the water with great guys.  Todays photo is of Mike and Rick with a double on of nice keeper redfish and a couple of their nice reds.

10-09-07

Today I was fishing a group for the Redfish Lodge. I had the pleasure of fishing with Darrell Schwalbach from Omaha Nebraska and Mike Wood from Coppell Texas. First couple stops was slow but our third stop produced 4 solid reds and numerous misses. It took them a while to get the hang of letting them really have time to take those crabs. Our next stop was right around the corner and it was on. We finished up our limit and released a few before quietly exiting. We then looked the next couple hours for some trout but to no avail. I had a great time with these guys. Todays photo is the final catch of the day.

10-08-07

Today I had Randy Schulte again. Last time they were down we got ran off the water early by heavy thunderstorms. Well guess what?? Same thing again today. We wanted for an hour or so then it finally cleared a little and we headed out. The clear skies quickly turned bad with heavy lightning again and we ran back to the dock. After a couple hours we headed  back out. Just like last time we found a pocket of fish and managed two keepers and some undersize when the lightning came again. This time we called it a day once again. These guys have just had some really bad luck weather wise. There are some things I cant control but the weather is definately one. It was amazing to see a recreational boat owner make numerous attempts to go out in heavy lightning. Here is a clue: If 8 or so guides are not leaving the dock which means no pay day then the light bulb should come on that the conditions are tooooo bad !!!!!! Hopefully Randy will give it another shot here in Rockport and the weather gods will cooperate.

10-07-07

Well I headed back north today. What a difference a day makes once again. Today I had Melanie, Paul, and Allen. We caught fish at every spot yesterday but today it was very slow. We did manage a nice box thanks to Melanie. Allen and Paul managed a lot of undersize fish but just could not find the keepers. On the other hand Melanie managed seven keepers. Once again the ladies ruled !!! Not sure yet where Im heading tomorrow. They are calling for flood warnings due to the high tides from the tropical storm. Todays photo is of Melanie with one of the seven keeper reds.

10-06-07

Today I had a four boat company trip for my good pal Rick Smith of Keller Martin in San Antonio. He brought his dad Russell with him, Randy Riley and Celeste. Two of the boats fished south and two of us fished north. We had steady action all day today. We got off to a fast start with a lot of little fish with some keepers mixed in. Rick also managed a nice 28 lb black drum at the first stop as well. The winds kept changing on us today so we moved a lot more than I would have liked. Each time we found some fish the wind would change and we would have to move but the encouraging part is we caught fish at almost every stop. Randy definately got off to the fast start today. We managed our limit of 12 nice solid reds. As much as I hate to admit it, Randy caught the most fish today. But Celeste still managed the largest red on the boat so in my mind size beats quantity (at least today) !!!!! So the girls still rule !!!!! The other boat that fished up north limited out as well. The two boats south managed some nice fish today but not as many. Ill be heading back north again tomorrow. Todays photo is of Rick with his nice drum that we released, Celeste with her nice two spotted red and the final catch of the day with both groups. A great day on the water with great people.

10-05-07

Today I had another group for the Redfish Lodge. I had Matt  from Plano and the lovely Jeanette Musacchio from Flower Mound. I made the move to our northern bays today and used cracked crab for the first time this year. It was not fast and furious but steady enough. A lot of smaller fish but we did manage to get our limit. I think Ill head back there tomorrow. We found a good bite at the end of the day so hopefully they will be there tomorrow. I really enjoyed fishing with these two. Todays photo is of Jeanette with a couple of redfish on and then Jeanette and Matt with two of their limits.

10-04-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and I had the pleasure of fishing with Homer Flores and Charlie Josephs. Unfortunately the weather gods did not cooperate and we faced calm conditions again today. We had a few brief periods with a slight wind and we made it count. Not many bites today and fortunately we did not miss the ones that did. Homer and Charlie managed their limit of reds plus a couple trout. On our last stop Homer hooked up with a 25 pound Jack Crevele. After a 50 minute battle on 10 pound test line we finally got it in the boat. What a way to end the day. These guys were great to fish with. Just wish we would have had more bites. But compared to everyone else today we did great. Todays photos are of Homer with a his Jack on, the nice 25 lb jack and of course the final catch of the day photo.

10-03-07

Today I had one of my good client Gary Cleaver from Amarillo. We were hampered by no wind and slick calm conditions all day today. Not many bites during these conditions. Gary definately made every bite count today. He did not miss many fish today and that is a good thing. He definately kicked my butt today and that does not happen to me very often.  He ended up one red short of his limit but he did complete the Texas Slam. He caught his keeper red, trout and a flounder. That is what we call the Slam. It is actually rare to do that so great job Gary and congratulations. I sure hope the wind blows tomorrow. Todays photos are of Gary with his Slam fish.

10-02-07

Well its day two with the Lauer's and Ducich's. What a difference a day makes. We just could not get a bite going early today. Meri kay had a couple nice fish just boil all over her bait but would not take it. Then she broke off a nice fish and we had a couple misses but we just could not get any to the boat. Then we had the same slack period as yesterday. Once again Linda got on the board first with a nice red. Then Tim added a nice fish as well but it was still slow. The tide fell a little later today but once it did, the bite was on for us again. Linda limited first but John was right behind her. The highlight was when John, Meri Kay and Linda had a triple on. The old Chinese fire drill was in effect. Well the guys did ALOT better today but Linda still kicked butt once again. Nice job girl !!!! These were two great couples and I really had a great time the last two days with them. It is clients like these that makes it easier for me to get up every morning at 3:30 am during these long stretches without a day off. Todays photos are of Meri Kay and Tim with nice redfish on and of course the final catch of the day photo. I think the smiles says it all.

10-01-07

Today I had some new clients Tim and Linda Lauer from Houston and John and Meri Kay Ducich from Florida. Linda got off to a quick start today getting her limit rather quickly. Then the wind died and a few thunderstorms popped up and our bite died completely. We made several stops with no luck. We did find some fish mudding in the back lake that I waded yesterday but they just would not eat. Finally around noon our tide started to drop and I knew where they would be. It was not long and we were on them or shall I say Linda and Meri Kay were on them. The girls kicked some major butt today. I will not mention exactly how bad it was but trust me it was bad. Great job ladies !!! I have these fine folks again tomorrow. Hope the guys can regroup and play a little catch up. Todays photo is the final catch of the day with their limit of 12 nice reds and a couple trout.

09-30-07

Today I had Brian Baker and Mark Prudhomme. These guys were supposed to fish yesterday also but heavy rains prevented us from getting out so these guys were definately anxious to get out there. We had heavy rain again early but it slacked off enough for us to head out. We were wading today throwing lures. Our first wade managed only some undersize trout. We were getting rained on but these guys are die-hards and it didn't deter them from working hard. We then heading farther south to a back pocket that had been holding a lot of bait. We made a long and slow methodical wade in here. Im here to tell you these guys can get it done. They are experienced anglers and it definately made the difference today. They were one fish short of their limit when Mark on the last cast of the day hooked up. What a way to end the day. Its been awhile since I had the opportunity to wade and throw lures and it was a nice change of pace, especially getting to fish with good anglers. Todays photo is of Mark with the last fish of the day and of course the final catch of the day photo. Great job guys !!!!

09-29-07

Rained out today with heavy thunderstorms all day. Hopefully we can get back on the water tomorrow.

09-28-07

Well I had Marc Morris and Leonard Bourgeois again today. Well in yesterdays report I mentioned giving Marc a hard time all day about his ESPN bass hook set. Well he had the last laugh. He put it on Leonard and me today. He definately had the hot hand today. We ended up one fish short of our limit but the guys decided to call it a day early today. I had a great time with these two guys and I look forward to having an opportunity to fish with them again.
Special Note: I am on a very long stretch right now. I dont have a day off until another 22 days.  So if the reports are a few days late I apologize. I will get them in as soon as I catch my breath.

09-27-07

Today I had Marc Morris from Katy and Leonard Bourgeois from the Needville area. I headed back to the same spot as yesterday. We managed our limit of reds by about 10:30 again. Not as many fish today but we did not have the wind that we had yesterday so that hampered us some today. We did break off a few and lost a couple but still overall not bad. It took me awhile to get Marc over that ESPN bass hook set !!!!! We spent the rest of the day looking for trout but only found undersize fish. I don't know where they are hiding. Im sure I will be heading back to the same area tomorrow !!!!!

9-26-07

I was fishing as part of another company group today and I had Myron Pendley, Doug Combes, and Saheed. from J E Dunn construction in Houston. We were targeting redfish again today since our trout bite remains slow and spotty. We actually got on some fish earlier today. Our best bite hasn't been until 10:30 or so but we finished up about then today. We had a nice limit of reds, caught a few undersize and released a few more keepers. These guys were all avid fishermen and did a great job making my job easier. Todays photo is of the guys with one of their redfish and then the final catch of the day. I had a great time on the water with these guys.

09-25-07

Today I was fishing as part of a company group for Redfish Lodge. I had Mike Thomas and Gary. The surf was calm enough yesterday and these guys had a good day there so we attempted to head there again this morning. Unfortunately the storms in the area had it way too rough to even attempt. We made a couple anchors and picked up 5 trout. With the slow bite I ran to the area Ive been redfishing and we started drifting. We managed to get our limit of reds and Gary broke off a nice one. We had an early day today and had to be in before noon. So overall not a bad day to finish with limits of reds. Todays photo is of Mike and Gary with the final catch of the day.

09-23-07

Today I was fishing Michael McCullough and Wayne Clements from Dallas. No wind again this morning so I opted to look for trout early. First two stops yielded nothing then the west wind started blowing so I headed for redfish. Mike picked up a nice fish and Wayne lost one then the wind died completely again. We headed to an area that had been holding some trout and got a small bite going and then a porpoise shut our bite down. We made a couple small moves but could not get back on the fish. I watched some bait acting nervous just west of us so I told the guys we were going to move over to that little sand bar and give it a few minutes. That turned out to be a good move. It was on. We quickly limited on nice 17-19 inch fish. We then went back to look for more redfish but the lack of wind just killed us. I ran into a back lake and we saw a lot of fish but is was too shallow for me to shut down in there but my clients enjoyed seeing all the nice redfish. Wayne did end the day with a nice red though. Again, I was fortunate to have a couple great guys today. These guys could really fish and it made my job easier. Great box again today. Todays photo is the final catch of the day. Great job guys !!!

09-22-07

Today I was fishing as part of a multiple boat group for another guide. I knew we had our work cut out for us today. First we were facing another morning of NO wind. You have heard me mention numerous times how much we hate that. Second this group was heading to south texas for an afternoon dove hunt so that meant we had to be back at the dock by 11:30 and you know our best bite hasnt been starting till then. We managed a couple nice reds early then the slack conditions took its toll. We finally had a slight breath of wind around 11:00 and we managed a couple more reds and lost three good ones right at the boat. Should have had our limit but the losses cost us today.

09-21-07

Today was day two for the group that I fished yesterday. Today I had Billy Shortner again and today he had Kim Black with him. I started today fishing on a patch of shell. Lots of small reds and small trout on here but only one keeper trout. I then headed back to the area for redfish but we were hampered by the lack of wind. Ive been drifting this area and we were kind of dead in the water. We did manage a couple and broke one off. I then moved to another area and the wind finally started blowing a little for us and this made the difference. We got the bite going and got our limit once again. Another great day on the water with good people. These guys were heading home today for an afternoon dove hunt. I envy them. Wish I could have been there with them. Todays photo is of Kim fighting a nice redfish and of course the final catch.

09-20-07

Today I had Robert Brennan from Houston and Billy Shortner from Beeville. We got off to a slow start today. I had a couple days off and was not sure what kind of pattern these fish were in. But I was told that the bite just was not happening until 11 or so. We worked hard and managed three reds, two trout and a nice flounder by 10:30 or so. Then I headed back to the same area I started at and it was on. We finished up our limit, missed and lost some and played catch and release for awhile before heading in. Another good day of redfishing. The trout action is slow to say the least but the redfish action is good so it makes up for it. I had a great time today and Robert and Billy were great to fish with. Todays photo is of Billy releasing a nice keeper redfish and of course the final catch of the day photo. Robert is holding his nice flounder that he caught.

      09-15-07

Today I had a group from the houston area. This was their first time fishing with me so the pressure is always on. Our plan was to pick up our reds first and then hopefully do some wadefishing with lures. Again we got off to a quick start then the usual Saturday heavy boat traffic took its toll on my area. We picked up fish at just about every stop we made. Some undersized but some solid keepers mixed in. We did managed a nice box of reds today but it took a little longer due to the heavy boat pressure so we did not get a chance to wade. These guys were good fishermen and I hope I have the opportunity to fish with them again. Todays photo is of Mark, Alan and Paul with the final catch of the day.

09-14-07

Today was day two and I had Alan and Jeff again. For some reason these guys wanted to fish with me again. Im glad though because I had a great time with them yesterday. We headed back to the same spot and quickly put three nice fish in the box. Then guess what? Our wind died even earlier today and it was over once again. We did manage some small fish but only a couple more keeper trout. We did beat the other boats both days in a row. Todays photo is of Jeff with a nice red on.

09-13-07

Today I was fishing as part of a multiple boat group again. I had Alan Woytek and Jeff Springer from the Houston area. I went back to my redfish area and it did not take long. In fact the first cast netted Alan a nice fish. After two short drifts we had our limit of reds and went looking for trout. Its a good thing we got on the fish early. The wind died around 9 am and so did the bite. The trout bite was slow to say the least. I think the rest of the day we picked up only 5 keeper fish and quite a few undersize. Todays photo is of the final catch of the day.

09-12-07

Today was day two for the Lafferty group. For some reason Kevin wanted to fish with me again. Today he brought Michael Wilson and John Bretz with him. We faced a hard north wind today and my fish were not to be found in the area I had been fishing. But I knew they did not move far. I just had to find them and then hopefully we could get them to eat. I finally located the fish and we got them going. These guys did a great job and did not miss many fish. They all managed their limit by 10: 45 am  plus we released a few more. This was a great group and I had a great time fishing with them. Todays photos are of John with a nice red on, Kevin releasing a nice red and of course the final catch of the day photo.

09-11-07

Today I had Kevin Lafferty and Steve from the Houston area. Kevin was the host for a multiple boat group at the Redfish Lodge. We got off to a slow start but I kept telling them not to worry. My redfish bite just has not been happening until we get some tide movement around 11:00 am. We managed a few keeper trout and quite a few smaller fish. Then as expected around 10:45 the redfish showed up. We managed our limit of reds rather quickly plus released a few more. The highlite of the day was a nice 27 1/4 in trout by Kevin. We quickly photographed her and released her. Todays photo is of Kevin with his nice trophy trout. Nice job Kevin !!!

09-10-07

Today I had Curt Dimmick again. If you remember Curt fished with me for the first time a couple of weeks ago. My redfish bite hasnt been until a little later so we looked for trout first. We managed his limit of trout finally around 9:30. We had to sift through a lot of little fish but finally limited out. Then it was time to head for redfish. My fish were still there. We had a great bite today. The conditions were perfect for the area I was fishing. We were sight casting to pot holes and it seemed every pot hole was holding fish. Double hook ups were common today. What a great day on the water. Curt is quickly becoming a good salt water angler. I think I've spoiled him too soon. Curt is truly a great sportsman I look forward to fishing with him again.

09-09-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge. A great day on the water. We managed limits of redfish drifting with piggy perch.

09-08-07

Today I was part of a big group of about 40 boats for the plumbing contractors association. I had the pleasure to fish with Fred Collazo, his son Freddy, and Derly Cuellar. And yes take a look at those shorts. You know I had a field day what that all day long !!!! We could way in 5 trout, 2 redfish and one flounder. My game plan was to get our five trout and then look for those nice reds Ive been on. It took us awhile to get our five trout. A lot of little fish but had to work hard to get five solid keepers. We then went looking for my redfish. As it has been the bite was not till late when the tide starts falling. We managed five nice reds before having to head in for way in. We did not win but had a good respectable showing. Our reds were in the 23-24 inch range and in tournaments you have to have those 27-28 in fish. Nice job guys.
photos pending I took the next few days off to get my new boat in service. I would like to take the time to thank my sponsors. My new 23 Haynie is fabulous. This is my fifth Haynie boat and I wont run anything else. It is definately the best boat on the coast. Haynie boats is owned by Chris Coultier of Chris's Marine in Aransas Pass. Chris and his crew take excellent care of me and their service is great. Of course my new boat is powered by the number one engine on the water-Mercury. Ive been sponsored by Mercury now for about 8 years and they make the best motor going today. Again I am fortunate to have such fine sponsors that provide me the best equipment on the marked. Visit my sponsor link to find out more on these fine products.

09-04-07

Today I headed out for a couple hours to do a little scouting before heading to Seadrift and Haynie boat works to work on my new boat. A great hour or so on the water. I pulled up to one of my favorite reefs and it was on. I quickly got my limit of solid trout and caught another nice 28 in fish. This is the second trout over 28 in for me in a week or so. Wish I could find these fish tournament time !!!! Of course she was photographed and released.

09-03-07

Today I had a good client Randy Schulte. We got out for only a couple of hours before heavy rains and thunderstorms ran us off the water. I wish the storms could have just held off for about one more hour. We just got on a good bite of redfish. We had a couple undersize on then lost a good one then quickly landed one nice 25 in fish. Then the storms came. We will have to try again another day.

09-02-07

Today was day two for the Jacobus group. Another good day on the water. We managed some nice reds and a few solid trout again.

09-01-07

Today I was fishing as part of a two boat group for the Jacobus family. This was a bachelor party of sorts. The guys stayed up all night partying and were a little tired today. My guys fished hard and managed some nice reds and a few trout. It was not fast and furious but we managed a pretty good day.

08-27-07

Today I had one of my good clients Steven Schultz from ABC in San Antonio We had a two boat group today and I had the pleasure of fishing with my good pal Dallas Cloud, Charlie Winget and Michelle Seward.  Dallas got on the board first with the first keeper fish . But then Michelle took over. We had a pretty good trout bite going. Unfortunately the guys were catching mostly undersize fish while Michelle was putting fish in the box. We managed 12 or so trout before we decided to head in and look for redfish. Our first cast within seconds landed Charlie a red but it was undersized. Shortly afterward we had a triple on. Unfortunately Charlie lost his on the motor, Dallas's fish was undersize and Michelle put a nice 27 in fish in the box. We drifted the remainder of the day. We managed six solid reds and yes missed a few and lost a couple. Still a pretty decent day but we had to work hard for them. Once again the ladies ruled !!!!! Charlie did manage his limit of 3 reds but Michelle's two were by far the largest of the day and she definately caught the most keeper trout. Way to go Michelle !!! Ill see these fine folks again in October and hopefully the guys will bring their A-game. If not I see another win for the ladies. Todays photo is of Michelle with her nice 27 in red and the final catch of the day.

08-26-07

Today I had another new client Curt Dimmick from Kingsland Texas. We had a lot of storm in the area but managed to dodge most of them. We got rained on twice for a short time but it was not bad. Lightning always does strange things to our fish and usually shuts them down. We also battled a lot of wind changes today. Just when you got a line on some fish the wind would change and you would lose them. We managed 7 nice trout and his limit of reds. We also released a few more reds and broke off several. The highlite was I saw a nice red cruising the surface and I had Curt site cast to him. His first cast was a little off so he reeled in quickly and his second cast was right on the money. The red immediately hit and the fight was on. Another nice red that we released. Curt was a true outdoorsman and it was great to fish with someone that truly enjoyed the experience. I really enjoyed the day and I hope to fish with Curt again. Todays photo is of Curt with a nice red on and of course the final catch of the day photo.

08-25-07

Today I had a new client Tyler Bloomer from Ft. Worth. He brought along his father Mike and his father in law Gary Marshall and his son Layne. It was Gary's birthday so this trip was a birthday present for him. I headed straight to the reef I fished yesterday. The fish were still there but the little fish ate us up but we managed around 15 keeper fish off the reef. And yes we had a lot of misses here this morning. Around 11:30 we headed to an area that I have been catching some nice fish. With the moon in the phase it is in our bite on these fish hasn't been till late morning. The first few drifts produced just a few small trout. Then the switch was finally thrown and the fish were hungry. We got our 12 slot reds in one drift. Gary definately had the hot hand today. He caught the largest trout, the largest red and the most reds. I guess it was a Happy Birthday. Great job Gary !!!  We had a great time today and had a great box of fish.

08-24-07

Today I had a cancellation so I decided to head out for a couple hours to do a little scouting.  The tides are really high due to hurricane Dean so I decided to head to one of my favorite high tide reefs. It didnt take long and I had a nice limit of trout including a trophy class 29 in trout. As luck would have it I did not have my camera so I put her in the live well and headed to the dock. I got some guys fishing on the pier at Rockport Beach Park to take the photo for me. She was then released back to the bay live and well. This was a really nice fish for this time of year.

08-20-07

Today I had Robert Hoyland from the Keller Martin Group from San Antonio. Robert has fished with me before along with other members of Keller Martin. Today he brought young Corbin and Craig Hughes and his son Michael. We started off anchored up on some shell that had been holding some redfish. Michael and Corbin got off to a quick start boxing a couple really nice fish. Unfortunately they decided to let the grown ups in the game and Robert and Craig produced to lose a couple nice fish. We then changed strategies and started drifting. We finally got a bite going. Young Corbin managed to get his limit of reds plus landed a solid 25 in trout. Michael added another red and lost a really nice one. Robert finally managed a keeper red but it was deformed (probably due to a dolphin or shark bite) so I think the fish just felt sorry for him. Corbin definately had the hot hand today and did a great job. The kids really put a spanking on the adults. Todays photo is of Michael with the largest redfish of the day, a nice 27 3/4 in fish. The next photo is of Corbin with his 25 in trout (by the way which is larger than any trout Robert has caught). And the final photo is of Craig with his catch of the day.

08-18-07

Well we did not catch a lot of fish yesterday but we caught good tournament fish so my game plan will be the same. Well our trout were a little bit better today than yesterday which is good. The big redfish that I had been on though just were not biting. Since it was Saturday my fish were getting a lot of fishing pressure today and we were getting run over very hard but I decided not to leave the area and just grind  it out. We managed to get our 4 reds but they were not quite as nice as yesterdays. Hopefully the other team had the same problem. Well we did it, a clean sweep. We won with a commanding lead after day two. The second place team was around 70 inches behind us. Young Cory definately carried his dad this week catching all the larger fish and it paid off for him. Cory won the Grand Champion individual award and Cory and Art also took home the awards for Grand Champion Team Honors. Great job guys !!! I had a game plan going in and stuck to it and it paid off. There were several times when I almost change strategies but fortunately my experience took over and I stuck with my original plan. The top photo is of Cory the 2007 Grand Champion Individual Angler. The second photo is of Art and Cory the 2007 Team Champions. The last photo includes my winning team and the winners of the General (bait) Division. The guide was Brett Phillips who is also sponsored by American Rodsmiths also. He was fishing Garrett Scherer and his lovely wife Allison.  Garrett and his dad Robert own American Rodsmiths. It was great to see Garrett and Allison win Champion Team honors in the General Division. Myself and Brett Phillips both members of American Rodsmiths Pro Staff  ruled this weekend !! I am proud to be sponsored by American Rodsmiths and part of their Pro Team. I have been sponsored by these fine folks for a long time who make some of the finest fishing rods ever. Congratulations to the Scherer's on a job well done !!!!

Tournament Time

08-17-07

Tournament Time-Well today was day one of the Cast for the Cure Cystic Fibrosis Tournament. I have had the pleasure to be involved with this tournament since the beginning and it is definately my favorite tournament to fish. All proceeds go to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. This tournament has 40 of the top guides in the area so its very competitive to say the least. This is a catch and release tournament and we go by length of fish instead of weight. We have two anglers on board and each angler must catch his own fish and each angler can measure in his largest two trout and two reds each day. So I'm trying to put these guys on 4 trout and 4 reds total. This year I am fishing with my good friends Art Troscher and his son Cory from Houston. These guys are avid fisherman and fish with me quite a bit. Art is an avid lure fisherman so we are in the Artificial Division this year. I have come so close to winning this tournament the last couple years coming in second several times and losing one year by a quarter of an inch. This year would be special to win since I'm fishing Art and his son. Art lost his daughter to this disease so it would really make for a sweet victory. Well day one is over and we have a slim lead. Cory is winning the overall angler category by 3 inches and as a team we are leading by 3 or so inches as well. We have one team on our heels but we have a commanding lead over the rest of the field. Its a two team race.

08-14-07

Today I had a new client Greg Walsh from Houston and he brought Gene and Tolly Brooks from Florida. These guys are all avid fisherman and fish a lot and it showed. They did not miss many fish today. I had marked the spot on my GPS from the day before where we had them lit up and I headed straight there. As I eased in the bait was active everywhere. As soon as all three baits hit the water three fish on. Unfortunately they were all skip jacks. The next 10 or so baits ended up with the same result. Most people would have left the area but I opted to make a small adjustment and reposition where we could cast on top of the first bar instead of the middle of the gut and boy did it pay off. We had the fish lit up. They quickly had their limit of 30 trout, one nice red, and a nice black tip shark by 9:30 and we released quite a few more. We then headed back inside to look for some redfish but just about the time we hit the jetties some bad weather started rolling in. We made one short drift before the lightning ran us off the water. Another great day in the surf with avid fishermen. Todays photo is of Tolly with her best spec so far a nice 23 inch fish and once again you can see how calm the surf is in the background. We also have the final catch of the day photo and on our way in the coast guard was doing training so we stop to watch a minute. The last photo is of the helicopter hovering over a diver that they dropped in the water.

08-13-07

Today I had Clifton Dubose and his sons Clifton Jr, Dan and Ben. This was their first time to fish with me and yes the surf remains flat. We headed far north of Cedar Bayou today. We got off to a quick start and managed some really nice fish early then our bite slowed a little. Our next couple stops produced some nice fish. Again the action was steady but not fast and furious. My next stop was way north about 10 miles north of Cedar Bayou. I dont know why these fish migrate so far north so quickly but it seems to happen this way every year. Our last stop was incredible. It was definately surf fishing at its finest. As soon as I set the anchor and the first bait hit the water it was on!!!! It was fast and furious and it did not take long to finish up our limit. What a way to end the day. I think we were done by 11:00 today. We also had another nice spanish mackeral again today. These guys were very good fisherman and I look forward to hopefully fishing with them again.

08-12-07

Today I had the Madison's again. This time they left Dana at home. Looks like the guys cant take the competition !!!! So today Michaels college friend John Lenhart from Columbia Missouri joined us. It was his first time to saltwater fish and what a great time to be here. He had a chance to experience surf fishing at its finest. And you guys know me I rode him hard all day about being a yankee. Another great day on the water. I headed way north today and our first couple stops produced some really nice fish. Again it was not fast and furious but steady and not many undersized fish.  A great way to finish up. We ended up with our 35 or so solid trout, one black tip shark and some nice 27 inch spanish mackeral. What a day  and still done before noon. I hate to admit it but I think John put it on the Madison's today. This guy could really fish considering he was a yankee. Great job. Todays photo is of John with is first shark and of course the final catch of the day.

08-11-07

Today I had another repeat client Frank Contreras and Ray Rodriguez from Houston. We headed back to the surf again today. I made the same stops as yesterday but guess what? The fish had moved so we had to head even farther north today. Our bite was not as fast as furious as yesterday but we did not have as many undersized fish today. We got our limit plus played catch and release until I let another guide boat have our spot. Both these guys did well today and I think the match was pretty even. You can see in the background how calm the surf was today.  Another great day in the surf.

08-10-07

Today I had one of my good repeat clients Ronnie Madison from Lubbock. Today I had his wife Dana, and his sons Russell, Michael and Bradley. The winds have remained calm so you know where I headed. You got it back to the surf. Our first stop netted some hot action. It was fast and furious but a lot of undersized fish. We managed around 12 nice keepers before heading farther north. Our next stop was the same way. We managed 13 or so nice fish but again a lot of small ones in the mix that were eating our bait up. We headed really far north and got on some good quality fish and finished the day with 35 or so nice trout, and 4 reds.  Great day on the water with great folks. And yes once again the ladies ruled !!!! Dana definately out fished the guys again today. Ironically the same thing happened last year. Todays photos are of Michael with one of the nice reds and of course the catch of the day photo. I have these guys again Sunday. Hope the winds stay calm !!!

08-04-07

Today I had Darrell Hollek and his two sons Steve and Travis. We headed back to the surf today since it was so great the last two days. Our first stop netted us about 15 fish fairly quick. Then the boat pressure got heavy and our bite totally shut down. We headed farther north and our next stop produced only one fish. We headed a little farther north and I saw a huge raft of mullet and knew it would be on. We drifted in and it did not take long and it was fast and furious. We finished up getting the remainder of our limits and still were done by 9:00 am. Another great day in the surf. We then hit a few spots inside doing some scouting for other areas holding trout since the forecast did not look promising to get back in the surf tomorrow. We found another area in Aransas Bay that was holding some really nice fish. We caught and released another 10 or so fish before calling it a day. These were great folks and I really enjoyed fishing with them.

08-03-07

Today I had one of my good clients from Austin Wayne Radwanski and Travis. I was in the surf yesterday and it was fast and furious so we headed back out there today. The surf was in awesome shape with only one foot seas. As soon as we set the anchor and got set up the bite was on. It did not take long and by 7:15 we had our limit of trout. It doesn't get much faster than that. We then headed inside looking for some redfish. Both Wayne and Travis managed two solid reds before the lightning ran us off. But a great day on the water. Todays photo is of the final catch of the day.

07-30-07

Today I had the Wright family again. After seeing Natalie's huge redfish the kids wanted to get in the action today. I opted to drift the same areas looking for the redfish that we found yesterday. At first we were catching nothing but trout. We managed some nice keepers and quite a few undersize fish. Then Madison got us going with a nice redfish. Madison definately had the hot hand today catching  the most fish and the largest. Madison, Mallory and Christian all did well today. Its not easy drifting with piggies in a strong wind but these three did pretty well. I had a great time with the kids and I think the smiles says it all. Today photo is of the kids with a couple of the nice trout and a couple of the nice reds. Sorry Christian, but once again the ladies ruled. Madison kicked some butt today.

07-29-07

Today I had my good friend and client from San Antonio Greer Wright. The undersized fish killed us early. Everywhere we went we had good action but managed only one keeper. Greer had a late night so he opted to head back in after a couple of hours and his wife Natalie went back out with me. I changed strategies and we began drifting for redfish. Good move on my part. Natalie got her limit of slot reds plus this nice 29 1/2 in oversize. Unfortunately she also lost a huge trout right at the boat. Great day on the water. Sorry Greer but once again the ladies ruled !!!!
I had an afternoon trip today with the Stewart's from Magnolia and Grapevine. We opted to drift for redfish. We finally found an area holding some nice fish. I think we ended up with 9 redfish total and a few nice trout. And yes we had the big one get away. We had two lines crossed and tangled and wouldnt you know it a huge redfish hit one of the lines. We had it on for a moment until he broke off. Todays photo is of the Stewart clan with the catch of the day. These folks are avid hunters and fishermen and I look forward to the opportunity to fish with them again.

07-28-07

Today I had Bob "Ace" Wilson, Craig "Doon" Scott and Gary "Conroe" Thomas. These guys are all Longhorns and I had a great time fishing with them. Today was one of those days where the bite was early. We had a good bite going and boxed some nice fish with a lot of undersize fish.  Unfortunately we had a lot of misses as well. After about 10 or so it got extremely slow except for the undersize fish. I think we ended up with around 18 fish or so. With all the rain and fresh water I was satisfied with our results today.  Todays photo is of Bob and Craig with a couple of their nice trout and the catch of the day photo.

07-21-07

Special Note: September, October and November are big redfish months for us. These days are booking really fast so if you are wanting some hot redfish action call today. September and October two-thirds booked already.

07-20-07

Today I had the Wellborn's again. Since we had a good box of trout yesterday we decided to look for redfish today.  We made a couple of anchors on shell first and managed only undersize fish. We did break one good fish off. We then started drifting with limited success. We managed some nice trout but only two solid reds. And yes once again we ran to the dock to let a storm pass over. Not a spectacular day by no means but considering the conditions it could have been a lot worse.

07-19-07

Today I had Dr. Wellborn and his son Sam from Austin. Sam has not done any fishing since he was a kid so it was nice to get him back on the water. It took them awhile to get the hang of letting the fish have time to take it before setting the hook. We managed only a five keeper fish before getting run off the water by bad weather. I cant tell you how tired I am of the rain. We got back out after lunch and had a good bite going. Both of these guys got in the groove and were boxing fish. We got our limit of trout and just in time because another storm popped up. Another example of perseverance paying off. Great day on the water.

Today I had one of my good clients Douglas Kuenstler from Austin. We were hampered again by bad conditions but these guys were ready to grind it out. We had to come in for awhile to dodge a storm but managed to get back out. We ended up with 23 or so trout. Good day on the water and we worked hard for a nice box of fish. Its always a pleasure to fish with Doug and the friends that he brings.

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and they had a large group in from Gillman automotive. This is an annual trip for the company and I've been fortunate to fish them the last couple of years. We got rained out yesterday. Today I had Staci Thomas and Steve. I was really anxious to put these two on some fish early since we knew we would get heavy thunderstorms again today. This was Staci's first time fishing and I had a blast with her. It was nice to fish someone that was truly there for the experience and no high expectations. Fortunately we got on some nice fish early along with a lot of undersized. And once again the ladies ruled. Staci definately put it on Steve. We managed 18 out of our 20 before getting run off the water by heavy rain again around 10:00 am . Great day with some awesome folks.

07-15-07

I had a double today and my afternoon trip I was part of a multiple boat group today. I had the pleasure of fishing with Frank Owens, George Crawford and Randy Hardy. After the tough morning I was hoping the fish would be hungry this afternoon. The tides started falling around 5 and that definately helped our bite. We started off looking for some trout and managed 5 solid keepers and some small fish and missed our fair share. Once the tides started dropping I headed to the flats and drifted for redfish which paid off. We managed 4 solid reds and James lost another nice one at the boat. All the fish were good solid 24 -26 in fish. Due to heavy lightning we cut the trip short and headed to the dock. We definately had the most fish and the largest fish of the group. These guys were great and I really enjoyed fishing with them. Todays photo is of Frank, George and James with three of their nice reds and then a group photo of the entire group.

07-15-07

Well I had the Meloys again today and this time Shari decided to fish with us also. What a difference a day makes. The winds were up some again today and it drastically changed our bite. We hit most of the spots that we caught fish at yesterday and guess what, they were not there. We hit alot of areas today and had just could not get anything going. We managed only 4 keeper fish today before finally throwing in the towel. Very tough day on the water. How quickly things can change.

07-14-07

Today I had Chuck Meloy and his son Grady and his daughter Katy from Spring Texas. Chuck is a graduate from A and M  and Katy is a sophomore there and Grady is scheduled to go there. So you know I was giving these Aggies a hard time all day. We managed fish at every stop today. Again we sifted through a lot of small fish but ended up with around 17 or so nice keepers. Once again the ladies ruled !!! Katy definately put it on the guys today. She caught the first keeper, the most and the largest. A clean sweep for her. You go girl !!! Todays photo is of Katy with her largest trout of the day a nice 20 3/4 in fish and of course the final catch of the day. This is a great family and I really enjoyed our time on the water.

07-13-07

Today I had Randy Riley and his son Tyler and Bruce Head and his son Ethan. Last time out Tyler's sister out fished him so he was looking for revenge. He definately made up for it. Tyler by far caught the most fish today. If everyone would have caught as many keepers as Tyler we would have had a huge box. Ethan got on he board first with a nice 26 in red which ended up being the biggest fish of the day. Then Tyler got in the action and caught the most keeper fish. Again, a lot of little fish today. I think we ended up with around 10 or so keeper trout and two reds. Fairly tough day but again the conditions are tough. Todays photo is of Bruce and Ethan with their nice reds and Tyler with two of his nice trout.

07-12-07

Today I had Bill Maurin and his son. Last time they had Betty with them and she out fished them so they decided not let her fish today. We caught a lot of fish again today but as of late had to sift through a lot of little fish. We managed 15 or 16 solid keepers. We did not quite limit out but trust me when I say right now that is a good box of fish. Due to all the rains our water conditions are not too favorable. Great guys and a good day on the water.

07-11-07

Today I had my good client from Spring Texas Paul Pereira. Paul fishes with me several times a year and I always look forward to fishing with him. We had a good day on the water today. Paul got his limit of trout today. Most of the trout were very good quality today. We then made a few drifts looking for some redfish. Paul caught this really nice 26 in fish and then lost another one right at the boat before we called it a day. Todays photo is of Paul with his nice red.

07-08-07

Today I had David Flores and his son from San Antonio. We got off to a slow start catching a lot of undersize fish and only 4 keeper trout. I had seen a good school of reds so I made the long run to look for them and go figure they were not there. So we went back to trout fishing and finally got a good bite going. It was fast and furious for a while. We fell a few fish short of our limit today but managed a good box of solid quality fish. Good day on the water today.

07-07-07

Today I had Richard Lourie and his family. We caught a lot of fish today again but once again a lot of undersize fish. I think we caught around 70 fish today but only about 12 or so were keepers. We worked hard again today. And once again the girls kicked the guys butt !!!! Robin won all the cash pots for the biggest fish and the most. Simcha came in a close second. The guys-what can I say. Once again the girls ruled !!! Todays photo is of Simcha with her redfish and Robin with one of her redfish.  Sorry guys you weren't good enough to make the photo section.

07-04-07

Well the rains continued again this morning but it finally cleared some by 2:00. I had a two boat group today and we knew it would be tough going after three days of heavy thunderstorms and rain but these people were going stir crazy and were anxious to get out. I had the pleasure of having James and Holly Stewart and their two children Brynn and Sam. Brynn and Sam got on the board first with some solid trout. Then Holly got in the game and dad was lagging behind. James finally got going and boxed some nice trout as well. Once again the girls ruled. The highlight was Brynn catching a nice 24 in trout all by herself. We managed around 12 keepers. Quite honestly it was a lot better than i thought we would do. Very proud of what we did today considering the conditions over the last few days.

07-02-07

The heavy rains kept us off the water today. We have been getting hammered with heavy thunderstorms like the rest of the state.

07-01-07

Today I had my good friends and clients the Baetans from Houston. You see these guys often on the website with young Grayson. The rain and high winds played havoc with us again today. The winds were really cranking when we left the dock and got worse as the morning went on. We managed only a few keeper fish before finally throwing in the towel around 11:00 am. Its not too often that I surrender but today was one of those days that we knew it just wasnt going to happen.

06-30-07

Today I had one of my good clients Ken Swick and his crew of Norman Koch, Hugh Wallace and Hughs son. Randy usually fishes with these guys but he did not make the trip but they quickly called him to let him know we were catching fish. It was another grind today. We had a few good stretches but we worked very hard for the fish we had but we put together another good box of fish. I think we ended up with around 21 solid fish. It is always a pleasure to fish with this group. You cant imagine how much grief is handed out on this trip by everyone. Great day on the water.

06-28-07

Today I had Rodney Rowe and his son Matt from Jacksonville Texas. We caught a lot of fish today. A lot of the fish were undersized but we did manage around 15 or so keepers. The small fish and the porpoises ate us up today. We worked hard and still put together a decent box of fish. I had a great time with these guys.

06-26-07

Today I had Dale and Roxanne Chennault and kids. These great folks bring the kids every year to fish with me and I always look forward to seeing them. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate today. The winds started howling last nite and blew all day. I opted to look for redfish since our trout water was blown out. We only managed three reds today but the kids and Roxanne all caught a fish. It was a tough day for all guides that I talked to. I was disappointed with the conditions but afterwards the kids assured me they had a great time and look forward to coming back. This is a testament of great up bringing by Dale and Roxanne.

06-25-07

Today I had my "hunter" Pam Rosser from San Antonio. This time she left Virgil at home and brought her dad Lloyd Jary, her sister Elisa and her niece Sara. Another good day on the water. We got off to a slow start and only managed 8 or so trout after 4 or 5 stops. But the tide finally started moving and our bite was generated. We got on some fish and it was fast and furious to say the least. We would have 3 on at a time. There were a lot of 14 3/4 in fish but every fourth fish or so would be a solid keeper so I decided to stay and sift through them. We ended up with 23 or so keepers and caught a lot more undersize before running out of bait. I think Pam's sister took over the "hunter" position by catching the most fish but Pam did come through with the largest as always. Great day on the water with awesome people.

06-23-07

Today I had my good friend and client Dallas Cloud of Moore Erection Co in San Antonio. Dallas has had a couple tough trips with me lately and I really wanted to turn that around. We were fishing a contractors tournament. We got on the fish immediately today. Our first stop we picked up 8 or so trout and as soon as we got 3 decent fish we went looking for larger tournament fish. We needed 3 large trout and one red. Our next stop produced a good bite as well and again we left them biting looking for tournament fish. Third stop same thing, left them biting. We then spent the rest of the day looking for that elusive redfish. We dodged bad weather all morning and finally surrendered to the weather around 12:30. Unfortunately we did not find the red we needed. We ended up with 21 or so nice trout and could have easily limited if we did not leave them biting looking for larger fish. Overall a great day on the water with great people.

06-22-07

Today I had one of my good clients Douglas Kuenstler from Austin and Robert Eledge, James Nyfelar, and Carey Dietert. Wow- what a day. Doug and Carey got off to the hot start and we were well on our way in a hurry. Our first stop produced around 25 solid fish and not a single throwback in here. We got our remaining fish on our second anchor. 40 solid trout by 9:30 am. I sure could use some more days like that. We spent the rest of the day looking for reds and Robert and James picked up two studs. Im fishing a tournament tomorrow where I will need one large red, wish I could save one of these !!! You cant imagine how much fun these guys are to fish with. We were laughing all morning and there was plenty of trash talking going on. Todays photo is the catch of the day with Robert and James holding their nice reds. Great job guys.

06-20-07

Today was day two of the Schlumberger group and today I had Ed Tollefson and David Novak. Today was another grind day but we managed some nice trout and 4 nice reds in the 26-27 inch range.  Again I was fortunate to have some guys that could fish. We also had some more small fish again today. The young male trout are definately showing up. Todays photo is of the catch of the day.

06-19-07

Today I was fishing as party of a company group for Schlumberger. I had the great pleasure to fish day one with Steve Svatek and Bart (unfortunately I forgot Barts last name). Turns out Steve is from my home town of Wharton and I knew a lot of his relatives. I told them going in we would have to grind them out and that is what we did. We had several good snaps going but a lot of 14 7/8 in fish. We did manage 15 or so nice keepers though. We were definately top boat of the group. These guys could really fish and they definately made me look good. Todays photo is of Steve with the catch of the day. Bart was headed for some liquid refreshments I think.

06-18-07

Today I had one of my good clients Virgil and Pam Rosser. If you remember the last time Pam really put it on Virgil. Thats when Pam was proclaimed the "hunter" of the family. Well nothing has changed. Once again Pam caught the most fish. She managed 9 nice trout and had her last one on to complete her limit and we lost it right at the boat. I think Virgil landed 7 trout. Way to go Pam !!!! Todays photo is of Pam with the catch of the day. Where's Virgil?????

06-14-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge again. I had the pleasure to fish with Scott Stephens and Levi Goode from Houston. They had a three boat group and had a pot for the largest fish. We managed 12 or so trout and one nice red. We definately had the most fish but unfortunately the other boat had a large stingray. I cant believe they actually counted a stingray as the largest fish !! Todays photo is of Scott and Levi with a nice 24 in trout and a nice 24 1/2 in red.

06-12-07

Today I was fishing for the Redfish Lodge and I had Peter Reynolds group. The winds finally calmed and I headed to the surf for the first time this year. It did not take long to get things going. Our first anchor we managed around 15 trout and then moved down and finished up on our second anchor. We had our 30 nice trout before 10. A great day on the water. Todays photo is of the final catch.

06-10-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and I had Kevin McGuire and Jay Lo. I was excited when I was told I was fishing "Jay Lo" today but to my surprise it was not the singer and movie star Jennifer Lopez. Today was a prime example of how inconsistant our year has been. I went to the same spot where we limited out in an hour yesterday and worked the entire shoreline and never boxed a keeper fish. Hard to understand. So I changed strategies and we went back to the flats and drifted for redfish. We managed some nice reds and missed a few along with 3 trout. The reds were studs in the 26 in range. Wish I had one of those yesterday. Todays photo is of Kevin and Jay with some of their nice reds. Great job guys.

06-09-07

Today I was fishing some of my good clients Wayne and Barry Radwanski from Austin. These guys were fishing a private annual tournament called the Boo-Ray 2007 hosted by another one of my good clients Chris Kappmeier. We really got on the trout today. We had our limit of fish early with a lot of really nice trout. We needed 3 good trout and two reds to weight in. We had 3 solid trout in our limit of 20 with the largest being 23 1/2. Now all we needed was two solid reds. Unfortunately we only managed one and that kept us out of the money. These guys are always a blast to fish with. Wayne informed me that we definately had the most fish of all the entries. We will try again next year but we still had a great box of fish.

06-08-07

Today I was part of a five boat group for the Insco out of San Antonio. I had the pleasure of fishing with Tony Martinez and Mr. and Mrs. Lutz.  Mrs. Lutz got off to a quick start with 4 keepers before the guys finally decided to get in the game. Tony did get on a roll though and caught up quickly. Tony ended up catching the largest trout which was a solid 23 in fish and also the largest red which was 24 1/2 in. While the fishing was not fast and furious we managed a good box of fish with 14 or so trout, 2 reds, and a big jack crevelle. We also caught ALOT of small blacktip sharks today for some reason. We were definately top boat today. We won for most fish, largerst trout and largest redfish. That's what I'm talking about. Good day for all. But once again the ladies ruled!! Mrs. Lutz definately caught the most fish today. Todays photo is of Tony with his nice red and Mrs Lutz in an action shot with her Jack Crevelle and the nice jack that she eventually landed. I always look forward to fishing for Insco. They are a great company and always bring fine individuals like the one's I had today.

06-07-07

I fished for Redfish Lodge the next two days. The storm yesterday still had the fished messed up and we had strong winds for both days. Today they were sustained at 30 with gusts over 40. Fishing is just plain tough in these conditions. We managed 10 or so fish each day and quite honestly awful glad to have them.

06-05-07

Today I was part of a two boat group. We headed to Baffin Bay today looking for a faster bite and bigger fish and quite honestly just a change of pace. I had the good fortune of having the two ladies Caroline and Emma. It was the girls against the guys. We got off to a fast start but a lot of our fish were undersize while the guys were getting some larger fish. We finally got going and the better fish appeared for us. Emma definately had the hot hand. By 9:30 we had around 40 fish between the two boats. A horrific storm came up quickly and we headed for cover. We took shelter in one of the floating cabins. The owners were smart enough to leave a window unlocked so we did not have to break anything to hide from the severe weather. We had winds at 70 mph. It was bad. After several long hours we were able to head back to the ramp. Still a 40 fish day is not bad. If the weather would have just given us about 30 more minutes we would have had our 60.

06-04-07

Today I had a new client Carlene and Doyce Wheeler from Lampasas. We woke up to thunderstorms and alot of wind changes. It started from the west, then north, then east and by daylight it was blowing hard from the west. A west wind is usually tough for us. Doyce got on the board first with the first fish but Carlene quickly got the next two. Our bite stopped so we made a move. On our third move we really got on them. We had a fast bite going and quickly put 12 more in the box. Carlene was really putting it on Doyce but he did make a run at the end. We needed four more so we made a couple moves with no success. Then around 11:00 out bite returned and we finished out our limit plus caught and released some more. We headed in at noon with another fairly early day and limits of fish. I really needed today. Doyce may have caught the first fish but Carlene definately caught the most and the biggest. Once again the ladies rule !!!! Todays photo is of the final catch of the day. This was a great couple and I think they are hooked on Rockport bay fishing !!!
no photo today

06-03-07

Today I had one of my good clients from Amarillo, Gary Cleaver. After yesterday I was determined to get back on some fish. It took us a while to find them but we did and Gary was on his A-game today. He did not miss many fish and that always helps. We managed a good box and were off the water early which was nice since Im on a long 42 day stretch without a day off.

06-02-07

Today I had a five boat company group for Dallas Cloud of Moore Erection out of San Antonio. I had the great pleasure to fish with my good friend Dallas and the lovely Donna Ibanez. After the last two days I was pretty confident in my game plan going into today. I knew the boat traffic would be heavy so I opted to make a long run and be there where we had the early bite yesterday. After the long run and I eased into the area I knew I was in trouble. The conditions were the same as yesterday with the exception of one thing. The tons of menhaden that were present yesterday were gone, and so were my fish. We worked hard but only managed a few fish. I was so disappointed. I really wanted to put Dallas and Donna on a good bite. The others boats managed some good boxes. It is very rare that I get my butt kicked but I will admit it when I do. Today was just one of those days. Unfortunately it happened on a day when I had two great people. Ill definately make it up to them. Todays photo is of the company group. This is a yearly group for me and I and the other guides always look forward seeing them.

06-01-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge again and had Keith Cargill and Lary Knowlton. They caught a lot of grief from John and Vince from the day before and were anxious to get back at them. The conditions had changed from yesterday and we did not have the outgoing tide like the day before. We got on some nice fish on our second stop but our bite died.  I think we just missed it. We made several moves and managed 15 solid fish. We did not limit like yesterday but also had a shorter day today. And yes we had quite a few misses and losses today. We had a good time and a solid box of fish. These guys talked ALOT of business on the boat. Next time I need to get them to concentrate on fishing a little bit more. I had a great time as usual with this group and look forward to fishing them again. Todays photo is of Keith and Lary with a couple of their nice trout.

05-31-07

Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and had John McCain and Vince Ackerson. We got off to a slow start but I assured the guys we were going to be okay. We are on a full moon and I told them with the moon phase and tide schedule the bite would be around 11:30. We had five fish in the box and then I moved to a spot that I like on an outgoing tide. I was a little off on my prediction. The bite was on at 11:45. We really had them cranking and it did not take them long to limit out. They did a great job and we had a blast. They definately had bragging rights out of their group that night. I have fished these guys before and it is always a pleasure. I look forward to fishing them again. Todays photo is of the final catch.

05-30-07

Today I had another good client Greer Wright from San Antonio. Greer usually brings his two daughters Malorie and Madison but today it was just him. We got on some really nice fish today. It was not fast and furious but steady. Greer was on his A-game today and did not miss many fish. He got his limit early and then we made a couple drifts in the flats looking for redfish but did not find any. We called it a day. It was nice to have an early day on the water.

05-29-07

Today I had one of my good clients the Crawfords. I always look forward to fishing with these great people. We had two boats today and as usual I wanted Lynn and Barbara on my boat. Last few trips the ladies ruled so I wanted to keep the streak alive. Unfortunately the guys put it on us today. We managed some really nice fish but fell a little short of the other boat. Total we had around 40 trout between the two boats. Overall a good day/ but its always hard for me to come in second. We fished hard but just could not sustain a bite. Todays photo is the final catch of the day. Hope the guys did not rub it in too hard !!

05-27-07

Today I had Dan South and family from San Antonio.  Today was about the kids and their first fishing trip. I had 5 yr old Eric, 6 yr old Sam, 12 year old Sarah, 13 yr old Nicki and 17 yr old Alexandra. The weather was forecast to have heavy thunderstorms today. We had to wait awhile before getting out due to a storm but it moved off and we headed out to get some time on the water. Eric got off to a fast start. The second his line hit the water he had a nice keeper fish on. Unfortunately that was it at that spot. We moved down slightly and we had a good bite going. We had a fish on and sometimes doubles on constantly for about 15 minutes. We managed to pull 7 keepers out of the run and quite a few undersize fish. Then the porpoises showed up and shut our bite down completely. The weather got bad and then we headed in. These kids really did great and a great time was had by all. Nicki wasn't too enthused about going at first but that changed quickly when she started catching fish. We managed only 7 or 8 keepers but I'm here to tell you we had the best box of the day. A lot of top guides came in with 1 to 3 fish today. We caught a lot of fish with the undersized fish and everyone caught fish so that was great. Just look at the smiles in the photo and I think that says it all !!!!!

05-26-07

I had a cancellation today. I'm going to take this time to remind people to review my cancellation policy on my website.  Cancellations effect us greatly. Once you book a trip it is your day.

photo pending

05-25-07

Today I had one of my good clients Sean Brown and his family from San Antonio. We managed some nice fish today and put together a decent box but had to work hard for them. Its always great to fish with Sean and his wife Damisella and the kids. Once again the girls ruled today.

05-24-07

Today I had a go
