Today I had my good client Curt Dimmick. Curt is a great outdoorsman
so today was his first lure wade fishing trip with me. Our tides
really dropped overnight so I felt good about our chances. We were
throwing top waters today and it could not get much better. It is so
awesome to watch redfish blow up on a top water lure. A lot of the
fish would blow up three or four times in a row before finally
inhaling the lure. Some would be so close at that point that you
could see the fish inhale it. What a rush. And we had tons of blow
ups where the fish just missed and missed. After a good wade we
headed back to the boat just to find several more schools humping up
so we worked them with our trolling motor catching and releasing
more. I think we landed about 14 or so today and broke off some and
we left them schooling. We played catch and release today which is
always nice. Todays photo is of Curt with another redfish on. Guess
what we are doing tomorrow?? |

Today I had a two boat group for Steven Schultz and the ABC group
out of San Antonio. We headed back to the laguna madre today. I had
my good client Dallas Cloud, Michelle and Charlie today. We had a
west wind today and you guys no how much I hate that. It really made
some of the areas I had been fishing difficult to fish. It was not
fast and furious today but fairly steady. We managed 17 trout and
one oversized red. We missed quite a few fish today and lost quite a
few but we had some really nice fish today. Michelle got off to the
hot start and then caught her personal best trout a nice 25 in fish.
But Dallas did not let her stay on top long and caught his personal
best trout a nice 26 1/4 in fish. Finally Charlie got in the game
and started putting some keepers in the box. We hit one small pod of
oversize reds and had three on at one time. Unfortunately Michelle
is the only one that landed hers. The guys broke theirs off.
Michelle's red was another personal best for her a nice 29 1/2 in
fish. Great day on the water today with good folks. I always
enjoy fishing with Dallas, Michelle and Charlie. Todays photo is of
Dallas with his nice trout and Michelle with her oversized red.
Great job guys. |

Well the last two days I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and I
had the pure pleasure of fishing with the lovely Kim Reeves from
Hockley and her son Kory. This was Kim's first time to fish so that
is always a thrill watching someone catch her first red or trout.
Day one I decided to make the long run to the upper laguna madre.
Kim got on the board first catching her first keeper trout. It was
such a treat seeing the excitement on her face. Then she caught
another, and another and another. The rout was on. All Kory could do
was sit back and watch his mom do all the work. Kim got her limit of
trout but unfortunately Kory could not find a keeper. And she wasn't
done with just trout. The next thing you know she caught her first
redfish a nice 24 in fish. But she still wasn't done. She then
caught a nice 27 in fish. It was no contest today. Kim really put it
on her son today and trust me she reminded him on every fish. On day
two I was hoping Kory could rebound. We had a short day today so the
long run to the laguna was not an option. We were greeted with dead
calm conditions and no tide movement so I knew it would be tough
today. The wind finally picked up a little and so did our bite. A
lot of undersize fish but yes Kim did manage six nice trout. And yes
Kory got spanked my mom again today. And Kim and I were both hard on
him but he took it well. A great couple days with two really good
people. And Kim quickly became a pro. Todays photo is of Kim with
her first redfish, then Kim fighting her largest red, then the nice
27 in red. And yes, you can see Kory in the background having to
just watch. Great job Kim and once again girls rule !!! I think the
huge smiles says it all. |

Today I had a group sent to me by one of my good clients Dennis
Yanowski. He sent Sonny Knox, Sarah Ross, Roland Esquival and Joyita
Saha. We got down to the upper laguna only to be greeted by nasty
thunderstorms and rain. We watched it lightning and rain until
around 8:30 before I finally called it. The radar was covered up so
it did not look good. Around 11:00 Sarah called and said it was
clearing down there some and they really wanted to fish so I headed
back. The weather held out and we got some fishing in. This was the
first time for Sarah and Joyita to trout fish but it did not show.
They both were great students and learned quickly. Sarah got on the
board first then it was Joyita. The guys on the other hand just had
to sit back and watch. Today it was all girls !!!!!! We lost some
really nice fish today and had some misses which is expected with
first timers. After heavy thunderstorms most of the morning we put
together a pretty good box of really nice fish topped off with
Joyita's nice 24 in trout. If the guys would have contributed we
would have a great box. The girls kicked major butt again today. The
girls produced all but one lone fish caught by Roland. Great job
girls !!!!!! The guys could not figure out why the girls were
catching all the fish. I finally figured it out and attributed it to
the hot pink outfits so I think I might see Sonny and Roland in hot
pink next time !! Even though Sarah and Joyita ruled today,
the guys were really proud of them. Todays photo is of Joyita with her nice 24
in trout and the girls with their catch and then the girls were kind
enough to let the guys jump in with them. Great day with really good
people. I definately hope to see these guys again. |

Well the last two days were our Cystic Fibrosis Cast for the Cure
Tournament here in Rockport. Ive been highly involved with this
tournament since its inception and is definately my favorite
tournament of the year. All proceeds go to help find a cure for
Cystic Fibrosis. All the top guides in our area fish this event so a
lot of bragging rights are at stake. One again I had my good friend
and client Art Troscher and his son Cory. Fishing these two are even
more special since Art lost a daughter to this disease. Last year we
took top individual and team honors in the lure division so the
pressure was on to repeat. Day one was good to us. Not alot of fish
but good solid tournament fish. This tournament goes by length and
not pounds and we had a 20 in lead after day one. Day two was a lot
tougher. My fish were still there but we had some unfortunate
casting errors that really hurt on some tailing redfish. We really
grinded hard today in some tough soft muddy wading areas. Well once
again we prevailed. A lot of hard work paid off. We won Grand
Champion team honors and Art took Grand Champion overall angler.
This year was pretty much a repeat of last year. I am proud to
say that American Rodsmiths Fishing Rods has been of my sponsors for
a long time. Garrett Scherer from American Rodsmiths and his lovely
wife Allison fished with another American Rodsmith pro staff guide
Brett Phillips. They fished the bait division and took Grand
Champion honors in the team division and Allison took home Grand
Champion individual angler honors as well as largest trout. They are
repeat champions as well. Brett and myself are both proud to be part
of American Rodsmiths pro staff and its great for both of us to
bring home the top honors for them.
Todays photos are of my team champions Art and Cory Troscher.
Then the second photo includes Brett, Garrett and Allison.

I had another new client today Travis Hennecke and his friend Chuck
Faulkner. Travis has his own boat and fishes quite a bit so I was
looking forward to showing him some areas he hasnt fished before. Im
still fishing the upper laguna. We caught quite a few fish today. We
limited out on trout and looked for my big school of reds but they
were gone. We went back to where we were catching the trout and
threw some lures and the action was just as good. Chuck even added a
real nice perfect 28 in redfish on a soft plastic. These guys were
good fishermen but I still gave them grief every time they missed or
lost one. Great day on the water with solid fishermen. |
|
08-13-08 |
Spent the last couple days throwing lures for an upcoming tournament
I have Friday and Saturday. Im on some nice fish, hope they stay
there. |

08-09-08 |
Today I had a new client Tony Stubbs and Mike Rueckert. Tony brought
his son Charlie and Mike brought his son Jack and daughter Olivia.
Since I had young kids I opted to anchor up for redfish. We got off
to a pretty good start with a couple nice fish, then we missed a
couple and broke off a couple on shell. Then it slowed up
dramatically. We never got on a good bite today. We managed only
four keepers today. Normally when the bite is slow the kids have a
tough time being patient but these kids were great. These were
really great kids, I just wish the fishing would have been a little
better. Todays photo is of Olivia with her first redfish which she
caught all by herself and then Olivia, Jack, and Charlie with a nice
red. |

08-08-08 |
Today I had another one of my good clients Wayne Radwanski. These
guys are always great to fish with and its a lot of laughs. And of
course they always like to put a lot of pressure on me. I am still
fishing down south in the upper laguna. Another great day down
there. We made a couple anchors and put a few fish in the box then I
opted to start drifting. We picked up some really nice fish. Today
for some reason the bite seemed to be better on croakers than
piggies. We had a great box of trout plus picked up a couple solid
reds and yes I wont even try to calculate the number of misses and
lost fish we had today. Great day with good folks. |

08-05-08 |
Today I had one of my great clients Tommy Lyons and his wife Freda
again. I had an opening and contacted Tommy earlier about the big
school of reds so he was anxious to come down. Of course I called
him back and told him the fish were gone. He decided to come down
anyway because he had a "feeling" things would be better. We
got off to a slow start to say the least. Very few bites and the
ones we had we would hook and lose before they got to the boat. It
looked like it would be another tough day. Then Tommy landed a nice
27 in 7 pound trout. This by far was Tommy's personal best and a
true trophy for anyone. We kept grinding and looking and the next
thing you know the tide started moving and we started catching. The
same spots that produced nothing yesterday was now producing-go
figure. We managed 17 nice fish today and we missed a lot to say the
least. Usually Freda kicks butt but for some reason today she was
off her game and missed quite a few. Yes, I hate to admit it but
today goes to Tommy. He managed the largest and the most. The nice
trout is going to the taxidermist. We tried to revive her but she
was hooked deep and very stressed so unfortunately we could not
revive her. I think Tommy's smile says it all. And yes even Freda
was happy for him. Great job Tommy. |

Today I had a new client the McLean's from Ft. Worth. They brought
their two sons Hunter and Matthew. I was looking forward to putting
these youngsters on that big school of reds that I have been on. We
headed to an area for some early trout fishing until the sun got
high enough to look for those reds. Matt and Hunter got on the board
first catching their first keeper trout. Unfortunately the action
did not last long. Not many bites so I headed to look for that
school of reds. Guess what?? They were no where to be found. Another
guide that was on those fish with me started on one end and we went
to another and they were gone. We covered alot of territory with no
luck. I just dont know how over 1000 redfish can just disappear. We
went back to trout fishing and managed a few more keepers but a very
tough day overall. Ended up with only 5 keepers today at least
enough for dinner. I would have bet the house that those reds would
still be there. These are the days that are tough being a guide.
Great people that I really wanted to put on fish but it just did not
happen today. I think the west wind hurt us today. Todays photos are
of Matthew and Hunter with their first keeper trout. Great job guys. |

08-03-08 |
Well the last two days have been nothing short of spectacular to say
the least. Yesterday I found a huge school of large reds. There is
probably 500 fish in this school and they range from 26-32 inches.
We caught two perfect 28 in fish today where one weighed 10-2 and
the other 9-3. Folks that will win you big money come tournament
time. I have a tournament next weekend but the odds are they will be
gone by then. Today I had one of my new clients that started fishing
with me this year David Clark from San Antonio. He brought his son
Colton again and Colton brought his friend Jonathan Gonzales. This
was Jonathan's first time to salt water fish so I was anxious to put
him on these reds. We trout fished first because I wanted the sun to
come up where I could see the reds better. We boxed about 14 or so
really nice fish before heading to my redfish spot. It took them
awhile but they finally showed themselves and it was on. They were a
little more spooky today than yesterday due to no wind. It was hard
to get close to them in clear calm conditions. Colton got on the
board first with a nice 29 1/2 in red which we tagged. Then both
Colton and Jonathan got it going limiting out. My trolling motor
quit after about 5 fish so I really had to work to get us in
position. We finished the morning with 14 trout and 9 slot reds and
one oversize. Not a bad morning considering we were done by 10:30 or
so. Have some great photos today. The first photo is of part of the
large school of redfish surfacing. I did not get all of them in the
pic but still a great shot. The next photo is of Mr. Clark coaching
his son on how to get that big red in. And of course the catch of
the day photo with Mr. Clark, Colton and Jonathan. I think we kind
of spoiled Jonathan on his first day of salt water fishing. This my
friends is why I love this job. |
|
Reminder |
Remember-September, October
and November are HUGE redfish months for us and these days are
booking fast so dont miss out and book early so you dont get left
out. |

07-31-08 |
Today I had new client Mr. Murphy from Brenham. He brought his son
John and John's friend Brooks "polack" Lubojasky. This trip was for
the kids. I headed back to the same spots we fished yesterday and
guess what? They were not there today so we had to work and hunt
hard to put together a box. The action was not fast and furious by
no means but consistent enough to keep us interested. This was
Brook's first time to salt water fish and he had the hot hand early
putting it on John. But John came back at the end with a strong
rally. I had a great time with these guys and once again its great
to see a dad taking the time to enjoy the outdoors with his son. I
know I will always cherish the times that I spent with my dad on the
water. Todays photo is of John and Brooks with their catch of the
day. |

07-30-08 |
Well today I had my great clients Tommy Lyons and his wife Freda.
Due to the slow fishing in Rockport area I headed back south to the
Upper Laguna were I had been fishing prior to the hurricane and what
a great decision it was. We immediately got on the fish on our first
stop. Freda was catching keepers right and left while Tommy was
catching the undersized. Our next stop produced a couple for Tommy.
The tide started moving so I headed to one of my favorite spots off
the Intercoastal. It was definately on here. Our baits barely hit
the water when our first fish were on. We stopped short a couple of
our limit to go look for a couple big fish. Freda has been on me for
a BIG ONE. I made a run to an areal I like for big fish but the tide
was just not right for it so I headed back and we picked up our last
two and called it a day. The last time out Tommy actually picked up
a win for the guys but that was short lived. Freda really put it on
him today. It was a landslide butt kicking today. Great job Freda
and once again the girls ruled !!! |

07-29-08 |
Today I had a new client Kay Stein and her grandson Hunter. We were
trout fishing today. Kay got us on the board first with of all
things a Spanish Mackeral. We had a school come through where they
were jumping out of the water. We hooked a couple more but broke
off. They were definately lost !! We had to scratch hard today. No
fast bite but we would scratch out a couple here and there along
with some undersize. Hunter saved us today with a nice 25 1/2 in
trout that weighed almost five pounds. All day he had said that he
wanted to catch a flounder and then he did. This young man is going
to be a top notch fisherman. We managed around 12 or so keepers. Not
great but again considering the reports from others not bad. These
were great people and I hope to have an opportunity to fish with Kay
and Hunter again. Todays photo is of Hunter and myself with his nice
trout and then Hunter with his flounder. Great job Hunter. I think
his smiles says it all. |
|
07-27-08 |
Today I was fishing for another guide and we headed to Copano. I had
three guys and we managed 20 or so trout before calling it a day
around noon. Another good day on the water. |

07-26-08 |
Well it was day two with the Eledge group. I headed back to the same
area to drift for reds where we had the good success yesterday. What
a difference and a change of conditions can make. When I arrived to
our spot and saw how the tides had dropped and the water cleaned up
I knew we may be in trouble. We made some long hard drifts and James
was the only one to pick up a red. I then switched to plan B and
started to look for some trout. I think we managed 12 or so trout
and the one red. My phone was ringing all day from other guides so I
knew it was tough for everyone. Great day yesterday and a lot
tougher today, conditions play a huge factor in one's success or
lack of. Todays photo is of James with the only red of the day. |

07-25-08 |
Well the winds were still cranking today but my guys are die hards
so we decided to give it a shot. Today I had Doug Kuenstler, Carey
Dietert, Robert Eledge and James Nyfeler. The conditions dictated
that we drift the flats for redfish. Our first drift really got us
fired up. We picked up 3 nice reds and lost a couple on a very short
drift. James caught the first red and was the first to limit out.
The Doug followed with his limit, then Robert Picked up two.
Unfortunately the only keeper Carey had on broke off on the trim
tabs. We ended up with 9 solid reds and a very good box. Not knowing
what things were going to be like after the hurricane I was thrilled
with our day. Ive got these guys again tomorrow. Hopefully the reds
will still be there. Todays photo is of the catch of the day. And
yes the guys were nice enough to let Carey in the pic. This is
a great group and I cant come close to tell you how much grief was
handed out all day long. My stomach hurts from laughing so much. |

07-24-08 |
Well the hurricane is approaching and so are the high winds and
rain. I cancelled Wednesday and Thursday due to weather. Our tides
really came up as the picture today shows. We dodged a bullet and
got some much needed rain. Cant wait to get back out there. |

07-22-08 |
Today I had a new client Mr. Woods from the Lufkin area. He wanted
to put his 6 year old grandson Devan Lout on some trout. The north
winds were already blowing from the approaching hurricane so I opted
to stay close in Copano bay. We immediately started catching some
fish. A lot of undersize fish this morning but action for Devan is
what we were looking for. We probably caught 30 or so fish in a few
hours this morning. This young man did a great job today. He caught
the first fish, the largest fish and the most keepers. He really
kicked his grandpa's butt today. Great job Devan !!! Todays photo is
of Mr. Woods with Devan and his first ever keeper trout and then
Devan with his 5 keepers that he caught by himself. Really great
family and I look forward to fishing with them again. |

07-21-08 |
Today I had one of my good friends from Houston Jody Polk and he
brought Mitchell Srack with him. The surf was going to be marginal
today so I opted to head to the reefs where we picked up the fish
yesterday. It was not fast and furious but we were managing some
nice keepers. I was staying in contact with a couple guides in the
surf and they said it was pretty rough. The winds died a little
later in the morning so I headed there. We did not go as far down as
I had been due to time. We picked up some really nice fish in here.
Most were 21-24 in fish and fat. Great day on the water with on old
friend. |

07-20-08 |
Today I had Blake Schulte and his friends Cody Brune, Cory Brune,
and Matt Guthmann. We headed back to the surf again today. Our first
stop produced some quick bites. We put 5 fish quickly in the box
plus some undersize and some misses. Unfortunately we had two get
sick so we had to head back inside. I had to say it but I think a
little too much partying all night contributed to the sea sickness.
The fish were there, I sure hated to leave knowing it would be tough
inside. We made several stops and only caught undersize fish. I
finally headed to a mid bay reef and we started to catch some nice
keepers. We boxed about 15 or so along with a nice 34 in black tip
shark. We had two other sharks about the same size right to the boat
but lost both. We also had quite a few misses that hurt us as well
but still managed an okay box. Todays photo is of Cory with his nice
black tip. |

07-19-08 |
Today I was part of a 3 boat group. The winds were up a bit today
but I headed back to the surf. A little choppier out there early but
it settled down nice later in the morning. Today I had Barrett
Branon and Zeke Gowin from Liberty Hill. These guys stayed up all
night so I was a little worried at first. They were dragging a bit
but once the bite improved they got in the game and did well. The
bite was not fast and furious but steady. A lot more undersized fish
today as well. We managed our limit today and finished fairly early
considering we got a late start today. And yes Zeke did lose the
only redfish of the day by letting it get under the boat and
breaking off. These were great guys and I hope I get the chance to
fish with them again. We have a great photo today. We had a HUGE
porpoise hanging around us on our last stop so we decided to hand
feed her a few fish. The top photo is of Barrett feeding her a nice
fish. I wanted to hold on to the fish and let her take it from his
hand but as you can see if let go just a little early but still a
great pic. Then of course the catch of the day photo. |

07-18-08 |
Today I had one of my good clients Virgil Rosser from San Antonio.
His sister in law and father in law fished with me earlier in the
week. Virgil brought his friend Philip Schalekamp and Phillip's son
Johan. Well the winds died down so you know where I headed, the
surf. We had to make a couple moves to get on them but when we did
it was good. Im not sure if it was the moves or just the timing of
the bite. I think it was the timing. We managed 25 of our 30 trout
plus some bonus whiting thrown in. We missed a lot of fish today.
This was Phillips and Johan's first time to trout fish so it took
them awhile to get the hang of it. Young Johan had the hot
hand today putting it on Virgil and his dad. Virgil did manage the
largest fish of the day though. We then made a few drifts looking
for a kingfish for Johan with no success. We had one good strike but
did not hook up. Great day again with great folks. Its always a
pleasure to fish with Virgil. Hope the winds stay down for awhile.
The fish are thick out there. |

photos pending |
I had the Williams family again today. After the slow day yesterday
down south I stayed in Rockport today and headed north to San
Antonio bay. Not much better up here either. We did miss quite a few
more fish today. Mr. Williams did get in the game today and caught
the most I think. So he redeemed himself somewhat today. His
daughter had the catch of the day though. I made the ultimate
mistake by laying my rod down to get a fish off the line. And guess
what?? A fished slammed it and we watched my American Rodsmith rod
and Curado reel swim off. Unbelievably though about 20 minutes later
Kelly caught the line and reeled in my rod and reel. And yes the 18
in trout was still on it. So she gets top honors today. I figured
with her luck I had her pick some lotto numbers for me. Hopefully
they will be just as lucky. These were really fine people and it
kills me to have two tough days with such great folks. I hope to get
them back down to make it up to them. |
|
07-16-08 |
Today I had a new client Robin Williams from Midland. I headed back
south today but with not much success. Our tides dropped
dramatically and my fish I had been on were gone. We covered a lot
of territory trying to find them but didn't. I think we managed 12
trout and a flounder. Far cry from yesterday. Prime example how a
change of conditions can change everything. The girls had the hot
hand today boxing most all of the fish. If the guys would have
contributed the box would not have been bad. Great job girls !!! |

07-15-08 |
Today I had a new client Justin Marshall. He brought is wife Leanne
and Jim Mayfield who has fished with me several times before with
the Keller-Martin group. Today was an example of how quickly things
can change. The last two days the bite was kind of finicky and today
they finally started to eat. We basically caught most of our fish on
one spot. We picked up 12 or so keepers there then left. We then
picked up a few here and there then I headed right back to the spot
we left earlier and the bite was back on. There is a good lesson
there, dont be afraid to fish a spot you left earlier in the morning
if the conditions look right. We managed 29 of our 30 today. We
should have had our 30 but yours truly just miscounted and Justin
being an accountant quickly pointed that out to me at the dock.
Justin had the hot hand today. Hopefully I will see Justin and
Leanne again. I know I will see Jim in October for the Keller Martin
trip. |

07-14-08 |
Today I had one of my good clients the Jary's. Elissa brought her
dad Lloyd, her daughter Sara and her son. Nothing has changed I am
still fishing south. Although the bite is starting to slow a little
down here as well the Rockport area is still hurting so I will
continue to make the drive. Not near as many bites today but we did
have some misses today. When fishing starts to slow the misses can
really kill you. Great people again today. The girls definately put
it on the guys today. Great job girls !! |
|

07-13-08 |
Today I had another repeat client James Nyfeler. Today he brought
his wife Leah and his son Matthew and Karl Fisher. Headed south
again today. We fished the same areas today and again worked hard
for a good box. One spot on the intracoastal really produced for us.
Again kind of a finicky bite so we missed a few but still a good
box. Plus as you can see we added three really nice flounders today. |

07-12-08 |
Today I had another repeat client Jarred Sinn. Today he brought is
brother and his father in law. I headed back to the same areas that
I fished yesterday. The bite was not quite as good as yesterday. The
fish were there but they were just not eating as aggressively so we
had a lot more misses today. We still managed a good box and
compared to the reports from the Rockport area Im sure I will be
down here a few more days. |

07-10-08 |
Today I had one of my repeat clients Randy Yanowski. He brought Ken
Norman with him again and this time he brought his two sons. I
headed way south today. We launched at Corpus and headed south from
there and it was definately worth the drive. Randy got us started
with a really nice red. We picked up some real solid fish at each of
our first three stops then I headed to a back lake and it was on.
Two moves in there and we finished our day. Ken had a really rough
start and just could not get it going but our last stop he lit them
off and finished with a flurry. Randy and Ken are always great to
fish with and I hope Randy's sons will be back as well now. Great
day today. |

07-09-08 |
Today I had Trace, Joe and Beth Maurin. The reports from south were
still not good so I headed back up north. I am continuing to work
deep shell. We are just in one of those periods right now where
fishing is hard. Some misses killed us again today but we still
managed a good box thanks to Beth. Beth really put it on the guys
today. She definately had the hot hand today. This group is always a
pleasure to fish with and look forward to seeing them again. |

07-05-08 |
Today I had David Clarke, his son and his two nephews. We headed up
north today. Fishing has slowed somewhat and we worked hard for 13
trout. We did miss a few but the gafftop on the reefs really ate us
up. High pressure on top of us today did not help either. |

07-04-08 |
Today I had a new client Dennis and Deanne Scott and their daughter
Stephanie from the Dripping Springs area. Dennis is an avid lure
fisherman and our plan was to wade and throw lures while the girls
threw bait but due to conditions today I opted to stay in the boat
with bait. We had alot of bad weather in the area again so I really
did not want to wade and get far from the boat. Plus being fourth of
July I also felt the boat traffic would run over all the good
potential wading areas today. I went back to Copano bay today
to hopefully get away from some of the traffic and it was a good
move. No other boats insight today but the weather played a huge
role in that as well. I cannot tell you how many fish we actually
caught today. Tons of undersize fish. We had doubles and triples on
most of the time. Every stop we made today we immediately caught
fish. We got rained on several times but these guys were die-hards
so we stuck it out until around noon. Managed 14 or so keepers. Not
bad considering the conditions. I had to work on Stephanie's and
Deanne's hook set a little bit but once they got that down they did
not miss many. Dennis still has that sideways Bill Dance patented
bass masters hook set but that will take some time to get out !!!! I
really had a great time with this group today. I promised Dennis I
will get him back out to finish up that wade fishing portion. I cant
wait. And yes, I think Stephanie caught the biggest today. Nice job
Steph !! Todays photo is of Deanne with a nice trout on and the
final catch of the day photo. |

Today I had one of my good repeat clients the Baetens. Today was
Grayson's fifth birthday. I think he started fishing with me when he
was 2. Headed back to San Antonio bay today. Unfortunately we got a
late start today due to a malfunction in someone's alarm clock and
no not mine. The late start cost us today. The main bite has
been real early and the weather got bad on us as well so we did not
get much time on the water today. The last couple trips out the
Baetens have been hit with some tough conditions. We are going to
blame it on Tammy !!! |

Today I had a new client Mitchell Srack, his daughter Cori, his son
Payton and his fiance Jennifer Kellmann. I headed back to San
Antonio bay again today. Our first stop produced immediate action.
We had a really good bite going. Mitchell had the hot hand today.
Cori, Payton and Jennifer were just having trouble letting the trout
take it long enough before setting the hook. Shortly into our bite
out of the blue a north wind started blowing and we were instantly
out of position. We could not reach the fish and the bite slowed. I
made an adjustment but to no avail. If we could have just had 30 or
so more minutes we would have smoked them here. We spent the rest of
the morning scratching one here and there. The early misses really
cost us today. Good people today and its always a pleasure to fish
kids especially ones as well mannered and behaved as Cori and Payton
were. I think Mitchell caught the most today but Jennifer caught the
biggest. |

Today I had one of my annual clients the Wheelers. I always look
forward to these two great people. This now an annual anniversary
trip for them and I think this was year 34 for them. Is that great
or what??? I headed to the middle of Aransas Bay today. One of my
favorite reefs here was covered with fish. We picked up 16 solid
fish and probably 60 or 70 just undersized. Lots of action to say
the least. Mr. Wheeler got off to the fast start boxing the first
fish which was a nice 20 in trout. But it was all Mrs. Wheeler after
that. While her husband was catching the little ones, she was boxing
the solid keeper fish. Our bite was over by 9 am today and not much
after that. Winds calmed and bays slicked off and that is always the
kiss of death. Good box again today and the Wheelers are always
great. I look forward to seeing them again next year. |

06-27-08 |
Today I had new client Casey Kendrick and Dennis Williams. I headed
north to San Antonio bay today. Our first stop did not produce much
but our next stop was on to say the least. Today was a prime example
of how a few yards can make a difference. As I eased up to my
favorite spot on a reef there was another guide boat about 200 yds
from us. They had no action but I saw some bait flicker in my sweet
spot on the reef and the second our baits hit the water it was on.
Casey and Dennis quickly boxed their limit and released a few more.
I think we were done my 8 am. These guys are avid fishermen but
unfortunately they have not fished much in the past year but it did
not show. There was no rust in their game. A few misses here and
there but for the most part they stuck most of their bites. That
makes my job alot easier. We then spent several hours looking for
redfish but were unable to find any. Great day on the water with
really good guys. Dennis is a lure collector like me so it was nice
to talk lures with him as well. Todays photo is of Dennis with a
nice trout on and the final catch of the day. Great job guys. |

06-26-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and I had Bill Demuth from
Dallas and Abe Pacetti from Houston. Due to all the small fish
yesterday I headed north today. We got off to a slow start but
finally got a bite started. This was Bills first time to fish but he
caught on quickly. We had some misses at first but he listened and
was soon hooking up. He definately had the hot hand today. Great job
for his first time out. We ended up two short of our limit today but
we had some really solid fish. Todays photo is of Abe and Bill with
Bill's first trout. (Bill is on the right). I had a great time with
these guys today and they worked hard. |

06-25-08 |
Today I had my good client Tommy Lyons and his wife Freda. Today
Tommy also brought his lovely daughter Melissa. During dinner with
them I found out that Melissa had never been fishing before so she
was pretty skeptical about the whole thing. Our first stop
immediately brought some fast action. Melissa immediately hooked up
with her first trout. Tommy and I thought we had her hooked for sure
but unfortunately I dont think fishing is going to be her thing. I
think she was out of her element when she could not see a mall or a
Neiman Marcus in the background. We caught a lot of fish today but
unfortunately not a lot of keepers. I think we ended up with 13 or
14. Still not a bad day considering we had a lot of action and that
keeps Freda happy. This is the part that really kills me. As much as
I hate to admit it, Tommy had the hot hand today and kicked the
lady's butts today. For once, the guys ruled today. Todays photo is
of Melissa sleeping while yours truly is working. |

06-24-08 |
Today I had a new client Carl Lee and his son from Dallas. The winds
have started blowing again so I headed to Copano Bay. The water was
dirty early but once the tide started moving it cleared up. We
caught a lot of fish early but most were undersized. But once the
water started to clear up the fish got bigger. We managed our 20
trout before noon and I cant tell you how many undersized fish we
caught and had a lot of misses today. These guys did a great job
today and I hope I have an opportunity to fish with them
again. Todays photo is of the final catch of the day. |

06-21-08 |
Today I had my good friend and client Dallas Cloud from San Antonio.
He brought the lovely Donna Ibanez with him again and added two more
gorgeous ladies Misty Thurman and Julie Nelson. The winds calmed so
I headed to the surf for my first trip out there. First stop
produced nothing but shark bites and Donna landed a nice keeper
black tip. We then made a run farther down the beach and we really
got on some nice fish. Misty had the hot hand and got us going. Then
Julie got on a roll and then Donna. These ladies really got it done
today. Yes Dallas was outnumbered but he still got his butt kicked
today by the girls. We boxed 30 nice trout then decided to head in
to look for some reds. We saw two small schools but they were in
shallow water and we could just not get close enough to them without
spooking them. Great day on the water with great people once again.
Misty definately won top honors today and once again the ladies
ruled!! First photo is of Donna and Misty helping me drive. Second
photo is of the catch of the day and of course I could not resist a
photo opportunity with Donna, Misty and Julie. The last photo is of
Donna with her black tip shark. God-I love my job!!!! |

06-20-08 |
Today I had a couple of Shayne's group from Katy Texas. I had Victor
Rodriguez and John Parson. The action was not quite as fast as
yesterday. We missed a lot of fish today. The bite was very weird
today and the fish for some reason were slamming the bait and then
letting go before you had time to set the hook. Victor got off to a
quick start boxing some really nice fish and John could not find a
keeper. Then finally things turned around for John and Victor had
the slump. John boxed some really nice trout and then landed a
really nice 26 in red. We worked hard today and had to make quite a
few moves unlike yesterday where we hit only two spots. We needed
three fish to limit out then Victor took over again and boxed the
last three keeper fish. He literally boxed the last two fish on the
last two baits. These guys worked hard today and got it done. Great
guys again today. Todays photo is of the final catch of the day with
John holding his redfish. |

06-19-08 |
I was fishing for Redfish Lodge again today and I had Shayne
Rodrigues and Bill Weisemann. Shayne and I hit the water first
because Bill did not arrive until around 9 am. Shayne is from Canada
so I knew it would be a long day. The grief started between the two
of us instantly. Shayne got off to a slow start with a lot of misses
but once he got the hang of it he came on strong. I cant tell you
how many fish we caught from 6:15 till 9 until we went to pick Bill
up. Once we picked Bill up we headed back out and picked up right
where we left off. A lot of action again. Bill came with his A-game
and did not miss many. There were a lot of undersize fish but enough
keepers to limit out. I cant tell you how much fun we had today. Not
only was the fishing great but the grief we gave each other was
hilarious. Great guys today and I will have a different part of
their group tomorrow. Todays photo is of Shayne with a nice trout on
and Shayne and Bill with the final catch of the day. And yes, I know
Shayne is going back to Canada to brag how he kicked the fishes butt
in Copano bay !!!!!! |

06-18-08 |
I fished for the Lodge again today and Heath wanted to come back for
more punishment. Today John Wells was fishing with Heath. John had
fished with Alan yesterday and I was fore warned about another bass
fisherman. In fact Alan called him Bill Dance all day. We got off to
a quick start today. We immediately had doubles on constantly.
Unfortunately a lot of little fish today. We had very little wind
and the wind was from the West so that contributed a lot to the many
undersized fish. We left our first stop to head to an area where we
caught some really nice fish but they were not there today. So I
headed back to where we started and the fish got bigger as the
morning went on. Here is another lesson for you guys: just because
you leave a spot dont be afraid to hit the same spot a little
later. It paid off for us today. We managed our limit by around
10:00 today. Not bad. Again , another great day on the water with
great people even though both of these guys are from Auburn. I knew
if I let them know about my love for Notre Dame they would
really miss more fish so I bit my tongue and kept that to myself .
Go Irish !!!!!!! |

06-17-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge. The winds have finally
settled and the water has finally cleared up and the fishing results
prove it. Today I had Heath Deneke, David Stratton and Scott Walton.
First couple stops produced only some undersize fish then the tide
started moving and so did our bite. We got our limit of trout and
caught a lot of undersize as well. And I wont even mention the
misses the bass fisherman had. Just when you think you had them
broke of the bass fisherman hook set they would do it again. We had
a little bit of time for some redfishing so I caught a couple mullet
and headed to a shoreline. David quickly landed a nice 26 1/4 in
fish and then we missed a couple then called it a day. Great day on
the water with really good people. Todays photo is of Heath and
David with the catch of the day and David is holding his nice red.
Unfortunately Scott missed out on the photo session. |

06-14-08 |
Today I had one of my good company groups for Moore Erection headed
up my one of my favorite clients Dallas Cloud. Once again he brought
the lovely Donna Ibanez with him. Tough fishing over all again
today. We had a six boat group today and my boat managed 9 trout. We
had about a ten fish average amongst the boats today so that tells
you how tough it was. Six quality guides averaging 9 or 10 fish a
boat makes for a long day. Todays photo is of Dallas and Donna with
the catch of the day. |
|
06-09-08 |
Today I had one of my good clients Virgil Rosser. Tough day on the
water today. We fished hard and alot of areas today. The high winds
have our water tore up and we are limited to where we can go.
Managed around 12 or so trout. |

06-08-08 |
Well today was day two but it was just Steve and Mack today. Made a
couple stops and picked up 16 really nice trout and then we headed
to try those reds again. I brought a different strategy today to
hopefully not break off so many. Well the reds were still there. It
did not take long and Mack was hooked up. The shell is so heavy in
here and the fish are sitting right on top of it so we still broke
off 8 or more again today. Mack got his limit today and once
again Steve was snake bit. He would have good fish on then they
would break off on the shell. We finished up today with 16 trout and
4 reds including one oversize. These were great guys and I really
enjoyed the last two days on the water despite the wind. Hopefully
we have hooked Mack on saltwater fishing and we will see him again
on the water. Todays photo is of Mack with his oversized red and
Steve with a nice slot fish. |
|

06-07-08 |
I was fishing for Redfish Lodge again today and I had Dale Shipley,
Steve Gillie and Mack Olson. The winds are still cranking and just
wont give us a break. We fished some really rough water this morning
and picked up 14 or 15 trout. We then headed to the shell that I
found those reds on yesterday. They were still there but
unfortunately we broke off and lost a lot of them. Dale managed his
limit of reds but Steve and Dale were struck with bad luck and kept
breaking off on the shell. This was pretty much Mack's first time to
saltwater fish so it was nice to see him catching some nice fish.
Pretty good box today considering the conditions. If we had the
misses and break offs we would have had an outstanding box. I think
I have these guys tomorrow so we will try again. Todays photo is of
Mack with one of his limit of reds. Great job Mack !! |

06-06-08 |
I was fishing for Redfish Lodge today and had the pleasure of
fishing with Cassie Robertson from Direct Energy in Corpus and Scott
Kokosa from League City. Scott is a transplanted New Yorker and has
been in Texas about 4 years. Of course I gave him grief about being
another "Damn Yankee". One that came here and didn't go back!! Due
to the high winds and still muddy conditions I opted to redfish
today. First stop produced nothing then we made a run to my
tournament hole and Cassie picked up our first red. A few undersize
then we made another move and what a good one it was. We picked up 4
more really nice fish in the 25-30 inch range. These fish were on a
small piece of shell and we broke off 5 or so with one nearly
breaking the rod holder and rod. Scott caught one of the nicest big
reds I have ever seen. It was almost 30 inches and had 53 spots.
Just a beautiful fish. He will probably never go back to New York
now !!!! We had a short day today and had to be in by noon. I know
where Im heading tomorrow. I really had a great time with these two
and I hope to get an opportunity to fish with them again. Im sure
Scott took home the money on the big fish pot. Todays photo is of
Cassie with a nice redfish on and Scott with his trophy red. Great
job guys !!!! |
|
06-05-08 |
Well the last two days have been rough to say the least. The winds
have been blowing day and night. When the winds are sustained at 30
mph and gusts in the high 40's folks there are not many places to
go. |

06-03-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and had Greg Bobrow and Matt
LeBlanc. The winds started howling last night and were blowing when
I arrived at the ramp. I made the decision to head to some mid-bay
shell despite the rough conditions. I knew we needed to get on them
early before the water muddied up. It was rough and I could see that
unsure look in my guys eyes. But when you start catching fish that
all goes away. We got on a good bite early despite the rough
conditions. We managed 16 really nice fish before the bite ended and
it got too rough. I then headed inside confident that I could find
four fish. Our next stop produced 3 real quick then that was it. We
made a couple more stops and nothing then drifted awhile with no
keepers. I went back to where we picked those three up and we got
the last one there. Took what seemed forever to get those last four.
Luckily these guys did not miss too many today so that definately
helped. Considering the conditions, awesome day with great guys. |

06-02-08 |
Today I had a repeat client the Dubose family. We had a two boat
group today. The first boat had Dan Dubose, Andie Felts, and T.C.
Smith. I had Cliff Dubose, Ben Dubose and Bens lovely girlfriend
Cristina Del Pinal. Our first stop produced a good quick bite. We
managed 16 or 17 solid fish in an hour or so. We then headed to my
second spot and found some good fish but unfortunately the
porpoise's were still there. We hooked 6 or 7 really nice fish and
failed to get any to the boat. The porpoise's were just hammering
them. Of course Christina thought they were cute !!!! Of course I
call them a severe pain in the butt. We made several moves then
found a piece of mid bay shell that was holding some fish. We picked
up 10 or so more here. Each boat finished the day with 27 or 28
fish. Great day on the water. Ben definately had the hot hand on our
boat today. I also learned something new today. All these years I
thought I was catching speckled trout but Christina informed me that
they were "freckled" trout. Great people again today and I think
Christina enjoyed her first Texas bay fishing trip. The top photo is
of the first boat group and the bottom photo is of my group. |
|

06-01-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and I had the pleasure of
fishing with Lisa Childress and Dianne Flores. I had fished with
Lisa last year so it was good to see her again. The winds picked up
last night so it was pretty rough at our first stop. We managed
around 10 really nice fish. We did miss quite a few in here though
which I attribute to the rough conditions. I then decided to
get out of the rough water. We managed a couple more fish before I
made a run across the bay. We got back on some really nice
fish in here. Lisa had the hot hand early but Dianne came back at
the last and boxed the last four that we needed to limit out. These
girls did a great job today. |
|

05-31-08 |
Today I had another one of my good clients Barry Rousch and he
brought David Davison and his son J. D. We started off
in the boat and boxed 15 or so trout really quick. These guys were
in a private tournament so we left to look for bigger fish. We made
another stop and had some really good bites but unfortunately we
could not get them to the boat. The porpoises were eating them
before we could get them in. Our last one I had David reeling as
fast as he could. He was skimming his trout right on top the water
and I thought we had a chance but about 10 ft from the boat the
porpoises surfaced and just nailed it. Awesome sight to see but very
irritating. We left the trout to look for reds because they needed
two reds as well. I made a run to a back cove and spotted a small
pod and we got out and began wading. This was Barry's first time to
throw a top-water so he got a quick lesson from me on how to
walk-the-dog. And guess what??? He nailed the two nice reds he
needed. Its always a great experience to catch fish on a top water,
especially his first. Great day today with great guys. Todays photo
is of Barry with his two top water reds. |

05-30-08 |
Today I had one of my good repeat clients Charles Meloy from Spring
Texas. This time he brought his father and his cousin Kenneth with
him. Last year he brought his daughter Katie and his wife and the
girls kicked butt so he left them at home this time. Hard to
describe the morning we had today. Guides often refer to a good bite
as a "snap". Well this morning was a Galactic Snap !!! We boxed 23
fish so fast is was crazy in less than an hour. And we are talking
solid 19 - 20 in fish. We could have finished up right there but I
opted to move. Next stop was good as well. A few more undersize fish
in here but still some solid 17-19 in fish. We finished up here and
left to look for Redfish. We spent several hours without a red.
Right now unless you are wading you are just not going to get them.
They are in real skinny water right now. These guys did a great job
this morning. This was Kenneth's first time to fish in almost 20
years so what a great way to get him hooked again. I talked to Katie
on the phone to tell her we had our 30 before 8 am. Trust me, dad is
in BIG trouble when he gets home for not taking her !!! Awesome day
with good people it just doesn't get any better. |

05-29-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and I had Jack Glass from
Georgia and George Jones from Dallas. Another good day on the water.
We got off to a little slower start today. We missed some fish
early. It took these guys a little while to get the hang of letting
the trout take the bait good before setting the hook. But once they
got the hang of it they did well. We had about 10 fish then I headed
to a piece of mid-bay shell. Jack was on fire here. He boxed 4 or 5
in a row. Our fish then turned small so I headed to another spot
then George got it going. We quickly finished up plus some throw
backs here. Not fast and furious today but steady enough to still be
done before noon. My fish got a little smaller today so I think Im
headed elsewhere tomorrow. Todays photo is of Jack and George with
the final catch of the day. |

05-28-08 |
Today I had a repeat client Tommie and Frede Lyons from Houston.
This time they brought their son Chris with them. We got off to a
good start again today. Our first stop produced 10 or 12 fish. Then
we made a slight move and picked up a couple more. I then noticed a
raft of bait on a point of grass and from time to time they would
just explode out of the water. I just knew it would be on. We got
set up and everything looked perfect but we only managed two fish
out of there. I still cant figure that one out. I thought we would
spank them in here. We then hit an area and starting picking them up
two or three here and there. On the way back we made one more stop
and got on a pretty good bite. Unfortunately the porpoises killed
our bite in here but we picked up some nice keepers and some
undersize. Of course Frede was happy seeing the huge porpoises that
close. We ended the day with 28. Another great day on the water.
Frede had the hot hand again today just like last time. So once
again girls rule !!! Chris did well today for his first salt water
experience. I think I ruined another bass fisherman. Tommie, all I
can say is better luck next time. Great group and we laughed all
morning. (Cant tell you what about though !!). |
|
05-27-08 |
Ill be on the water tomorrow but not fishing. Ive been hired by a
new resident to Rockport to just show him around our bay systems. He
just wants to learn cuts and channels and safe areas to travel to
get around. Dont worry guys I wont show him the hot spots !!! |

05-26-08 |
Today I had my good friend and client Sean Brown from San Antonio.
He had his son Bo and his daughter Gianna. He also brought his
friend Simon Alva and his daughter Avery. This was Avery's first
time to fish and fish out of a boat so I was excited about putting
her on some fish. Our first stop produced 8 or so fish then our bite
slowed so I made a slight move about 40 yards and it was on. We had
a quick bite and boxed another 12 or so real fast. Unfortunately the
way the current was moving we tangled multiple lines several times
and we lost our bite. We then made a run to the back side of Mud
Island and it was all girls back there. Gianna had the hot hand and
boxed 5 or 6 more and then Avery landed another two. The winds got
really rough so we got out of there. We had a good box of fish so we
headed in a little early again today. If the winds had not picked up
we could have really wacked them at Mud Island today. Today was
clearly won by the kids. Bo, Gianna and Avery put it on their dads
today. Even though the girls were out number 2 to 3 by the guys they
ruled today. Great job Gianna and Avery !!!!! We ended the morning
with 30 trout and one flounder. Todays photo is of Bo, Gianna and
Avery. I did not let Sean and Simon in the pic since the kids caught
most of them. Better luck next time dads !!! As always a great time
with the Brown family and Avery and her dad Simon. I hope to see
Avery and her dad again. Gianna told me she could fish every day
with me. Hope Sean has his check book ready !!!! |

05-25-08 |
Well today was day two with the Gillman's. Chris got off to a fast
start today. He was smoking hot today. Jamie finally got on track
but Chris kept the pressure on her. They put 17 solid trout in the
box and then we left to look for Jamie's redfish. We could have
finished up on trout but I really wanted Jamie to get her first ever
redfish. Not many guarantees but I made a long run to a spot that I
can pretty much always count on a good redfish. Sometimes you might
catch four or five out of the hole but you can always count on at
least one. In fact I call it my tournament hole because its always
reliable. We got to this very small sandhole and sure enough Jamie
got her first redfish a solid 25 1/2 in fish. We pulled one more out
of there that was just short of the slot. We headed back to another
reef and had a couple pretty good hits but missed. With another big
box of trout and Jamie's red we called it an early day. Well, Chris
came through for the guys today and kicked butt. Its about time the
guys win one. Todays photo is of Jamie holding her first redfish and
proud husband Chris. Great people and I'm sure I will be fishing
with them again. |

05-24-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and was personally requested
by Chris Gillman and his wife Jamie from Houston. I fished these
great folks last year and they wanted to make sure they had me
again. Last year when I fished them they were engaged and now they
are happily married. Its great seeing a couple that truly want to be
together and spend time together hunting and fishing. Another great
day on the water with these two. We got on the trout and managed our
limit of really nice fish. We got off to a fast start boxing 15 or
so quickly then our bite died and we made several moves to finish
up. Jamie said she wanted to catch a redfish tomorrow so we spent
some time cast netting some shad for tomorrow. It was pretty close
today between the two but I think Jamie might have beat Chris out
today. Im looking forward to tomorrow. |

05-23-08 |
Today I had Jamey Arnold and Randall Pawelek from Bartlett Cocke
general contractors in San Antonio. This was the first time for
these guys to fish with me so the pressure is always on. Great day
on the water despite winds blowing 35 mph. We got off to a quick
start boxing 9 or 10 really nice trout and a flounder. Then our bite
shut off and we made several moves picking up two or so at each
stop. The tide started moving again so I headed back where we
started and we picked up our last 5 or 6 there plus released a
couple before calling it a day. Nice box of trout with most ranging
from 19-22 inches and off the water before noon. These two guys were
great and I really enjoyed fishing with them. Todays photo is of
James and Randall with the final catch of the day. |
|
05-22-08 |
Well go figure. Awesome day yesterday and the winds cranked up again
overnite and Copano was gutted this morning. We worked hard today
but only managed 10 trout but quite honestly I was happy to have
them in such horrible water. Ill be heading south tomorrow. |
|
05-21-08 |
I just had one guy today so I headed to Copano bay. Great day on the
water. Caught about 25 nice trout before 9 am. This was a catch and
release trip which was even better. Ill head that way again
tomorrow. |
|
05-20-08 |
Today I was fishing for the lodge again. The winds are really
cranking today. Several of us made the long run to San Antonio bay
today and that was a mistake. I could not find a single patch of
fishable water the entire way. Even the protected shorelines were
gutted. I ran all the way back and loaded my boat and guys up and we
headed to the flats. Turned out to be a good move. We managed 15
nice trout and a flounder. I know we could not have done that in the
chocolate milk that we left. |
|
05-19-08 |
Today I had Dennis Yanowski again from San Antonio. We were wading
today throwing lures. VERY tough day today. Not many bites and
managed only a few fish. Our first stop looked so promising. Bait
was pouring down the shoreline and tide moving but not a single bite
in here. We made several long runs but just could not get on them. I
went back to were we started that had all the bait and it was still
there but no fish. We really worked and fished hard. During the day
I talked to several guides that were throwing croaker and they were
struggling as well. If they are not hitting croakers you know it is
going to be a hard day on lures. |
|
05-18-08 |
Today I had a group from the Redfish Lodge. I hit some of the same
spots we fished yesterday in the tournament and the trout were still
there. Not quite as fast of a bite but steady enough to get our
limit of twenty trout. |

05-17-08 |
Today was our annual Babes on the Bay tournament. I had the same
group as last year. I had Julia Fox, Jennifer Kopp, Ericka Gump and
Amanda McCain. Great job I have when you get paid to fish 4 lovely
ladies. Well this year was just the opposite from last year. Last
year we had really nice trout but could not get that big red to close
the deal. This year we had a really nice 27 in red thanks to Julia
but our trout were only 19 in. which will not do it in this
tournament. Ericka started off with the hot hand and boxed 5 nice 19
in fish really fast. We caught a couple more then left them biting
to look for bigger tournament fish. We caught a few more about the
same size and then started looking for redfish. Julia landed a
really nice 27 in fish so we made an attempt to upgrade our trout
but just could not find anything bigger. Great time today even
though we did not win. Todays photo is of Jennifer with a sea gull
that she caught, Julia with her nice red, Amanda sitting next to
yours truly (and Im sure that is why she is smiling !!! ). Somehow we did not get a pic of Ericka who caught the
most fish. I think the girls want to fish with me again next year.
Lucky me !!!!! |

05-14-08 |
Well today was day two with the Riley group. We rebounded a little
bit today but the girls once again prevailed. It was alot closer
today but with the big lead yesterday we could just not catch up.
Our bite is still very slow for this time of year and very hit and
miss. Todays photo is a group photo of the combined catch. This is a
great group and Dave and I look forward to seeing them again next
year. |

05-13-08 |
Today was day one of a two day trip with the Riley's. Last year the
girls put it on us on day one and they repeated again this year.
They had the hot hand once again today and definately put us in the
hole going into day two. Todays photo is off the girls with day one. |

05-12-08 |
Today I had one of my good clients the Jary's. Another tough day
again today. We started off with north winds then they switched to
the east and hard. I started off at Ingleside today due to the north
wind. Elisa caught 5 fish really quick and I thought finally we were
going to have that big bite. Boy was I wrong. We covered a lot of
ground today and managed only seven or so fish total and we fished
hard. My phone rang constantly today with other guides suffering
worse fate than us. Most guides had from 0-5 fish today. One guide
that had four people threw in the towel at 11:00 am without a single
bite. People the weather is just killing us. If it ever straightens
out it will turn around. But guess what, another front expected
Friday. The winds switched this evening back to the SE. Im expecting
a decent bite tomorrow. |

05-11-08 |
Today I had a six boat group for Advanced Production and Loading.
Most of the guys were from Norway. The weather men predicted a hard
front around 9 am and for once they were right on. Once the front
hit several boats decided to call it a morning but a few of the hard
core guys decided to tough it our for awhile. North winds at 35
makes it tough. I think everyone was off the water by 10:30. Tough
conditions and tough day. Todays photo is of a couple of the groups
with some nice reds. |
|
05-10-08 |
Today I had one of my good clients the Todd Family from Houston.
This is an annual mothers day trip for them. Winds howling again
today out of the SE. Another tough day. I keep saying our fishing is
going to improve any day but the weather gods are killing us and
another front expected tomorrow. We managed 11 or so trout and it
was all ladies today. Dianda and daughter Jessica smoked the guys. I
think the guys managed one fish between the three of them. If the
guys would have chipped in our box would have looked pretty good.
Last year Jessica took top honors but today it was moms turn. Nice
job and once again the ladies ruled !! |

05-09-08 |
Today I had Terry Turner, Mark McDonald and Hal Anderson. It was
another one of those days where we really hard to work hard. We
managed 19 or so really solid trout and Mark landed one really nice
redfish. No big bite again today. A lot of stops again today. Its
not supposed to be this tough this time of year for us. The weather
is really killing us and we just cant keep the fish patterned. These
guys could really fish and that definately helped our cause. They
did not miss many today and that always helps when fishing is tough.
Good box today but we really worked for them. Great group to fish
with and I hope I have the opportunity to fish with them again.
Todays photo is of Mark with his nice red and the final catch of the
day pic. |

05-08-08 |
Today I had a new client Pat and Betty Delmore and Tommie and Frede
Lyons from Houston. The wind has been blowing for several days but
finally laid today and it didnt take long for our water to start
clearing up. Betty got on the board first with a really nice red.
Then a couple stops only produced one fish per spot. The tide
finally started moving and the bite improved. Picked up 5 or six on
our next stop then made a slight move and had a good bite going
until the porpoises moved in on us and shut our bite down but we
picked up 8 or so. Winds died completely and so did our bite. Winds
changed to the south and our bite was back on. Unfortunately the
bite was mostly for the girls. It was not even close today. Betty
had the largest with her redfish and Betty and Frede teamed up to
easily beat the guys for the most fish. Once again the ladies ruled
and in a big way today !!! During dinner it became clear why the
guys are getting beat so bad. Pat had to get back to watch (of all
things) DANCING WITH THE STARS. What happened to fishing on
ESPN?? Again great job ladies. These were two great couples and I
really enjoyed my time on the water with them and dinner. Lots of
laughs today. Todays photo is of Betty with her nice red and the
final catch of the day. |

05-04-08 |
Today I had a new client Steve Murchison from Houston. He brought
Jay Turner and Rich Henderson with him. The water was still a little
tore up from the high north winds and now guess what?? Its howling
from the southeast. The weather gods are definately not shining on
us so far this year. I headed to the outside beach. Our first stop
produced a few good solid hits but none made it to the boat. Rich
had the hot hand but he had the bass fisherman technique and it
wasn't getting it done. We finally starting boxing a few fish but it
was not fast and furious. It seemed like two or three fish per spot
was going to be it. It was going to be one of those grinding days. I
changed strategies and started drifting and Jay quickly got in the
game boxing three really nice fish. Then both Steve and Rich got it
going. I have to give these guys credit they worked hard in some
tough conditions. We had a squall come through that brought rain and
high winds but with some makeshift raincoats out of trash bags they
fished through it. We managed 16 really solid fish today.
Considering the conditions good box today and better than most. Of
course we could have caught some reds if Rich would not have lost
the only skipjack of the day. That's the best redfish bait there is.
I do not think I've ever gave a client so much grief over losing a
trash fish. I had a great time with these guys today and I hope I
have an opportunity to fish with them again. |
|
05-03-08 |
Go figure, great conditions yesterday and another cold front today.
North winds howling and water muddy so back to redfishing. I had
part of the same group as yesterday with limited time. They had a
plane to catch so we had to be back at the dock by 10:30. Picked up
4 solid reds with Rob catching a very nice 30 in fish. |
|
05-02-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge. The winds finally layed
somewhat so I was trout fishing today. Few stops on outside beach
produced no bites so I made the decision to make a VERY long run to
Corpus and it paid off. We quickly were on some really nice fish. We
boxed about 20 or so when the winds picked up and we decided to call
it a morning. Good box today and off the water by noon. |

05-01-08 |
Today I had my good friend and client Gary Cleaver from Amarillo and
his brother Dennis. Strong winds today and muddy conditions so it
was going to be another redfish day. I headed straight to and area
that has been consistent for me. We boxed two nice fish then
nothing. We made several moves with no luck and I decided to head
back where we started. I knew those fish were there we just needed
to be there when they decided to eat. Perfect timing. We were not
anchored up long and it was on. We quickly got our limits and
released a couple nice 22 in fish to replace them with 25-27 in
fish. For about 30 minutes it was like a Chinese fire drill. We then
made a couple drifts looking for a few trout but mostly undersize
fish. Dennis did manage one keeper trout. Dennis was the winner
today catching the first, the largest and I think the most. Great
job Dennis!!! I always look forward to fishing with Mr. Cleaver and
his guests. |
|
04-30-08 |
Well today I was supposed to have a 3 boat company trip but their
was some confusion between several employees handling the trip and
they booked two separate guides to handle the event. Bottom line
they thought they could drop me the night before and it would be
okay. Wrong !!!! My cancellation policy is very clear, when you book
a trip that is your day. And in this case this effected two other
guides as well, so the company was charged for all three of us and
they paid for boats that did not fish. Expensive lesson for them. |
|
04-28-08 |
Tough day today. High pressure sitting above us after the front and
clear skies and absolutely no wind is the kiss of death. Very few
bites today but we did manage a few keeper trout and one red. Today
is one of those days leaving the dock you know its going to be
rough. |
|
04-27-08 |
Today the conditions improved and I trout fished today. I was
fishing for Redfish Lodge today. We were throwing croakers today.
They are still a little small but still working. We picked up 5 or 6
within minutes then the tide stopped moving and bite totally shut
off. We made quite a few moves with nothing. I then changed
strategies and started drifting free-lining croakers. We got a good
bite going then the bad weather ran us all of the water again. We
ended up with 17 of our 20 trout before having to run for the dock.
Not bad by 11:00. A few more minutes and we would have definately
limited out. No pic today due to the heavy rain. We ran for cover. |

04-26-08 |
Well the weather moved in around 3 am and we had heavy thunder and
lightning and rain until around 7:30. We finally got out around 9
but we had heavy north winds and the water was tore up to say the
least. Normally I like these conditions but lightning plays havoc
with our redfish in the flats. On our second stop we found some fish
on some heavy shell but just could not get any to the boat. We had
several solid misses and broke off numerous fish. I really hate
fishing this area due to losing so many fish but the conditions
forced me to go there. Our last stop we finally got on some fish and
boxed 4 nice fish and missed a few more and a lot of undersize. Not
a great day but considering the conditions we started with still not
bad. Any fish under these conditions was good. Todays photo is of
David, Brian, John and Brett with their reds. As you can see Brian
had a nice 30 in fish which you can see the tag on. |

04-25-08 |
Well today I had my good friend and client David Gallegos. Today he
brought Rick Martini from Martini Remodeling and Joe and Wayne. We
got off to a quick start today. We boxed seven really nice reds and
misses quite a few then our bite shut off. We hit several more stops
then returned to where we started and they started eating again. We
ended up with 11 solid reds and missed quite a few and broke off a
few. This was Wayne's first time to redfish and these reds were the
largest fish he has ever caught on rod and reel.. Good box of fish
and great guys to fish with. Ive got David again tomorrow but the
weather is supposed to get rough. We will see. |

04-24-08 |
Well the red fishing the last two days was great and I was hoping
things would not change today. We were greeted this morning with SE
winds at 30 mph gusting to 45. It was howling. In fact most guides
were skeptical about going but I was anxious to get out there. When
it comes to red fishing the high winds most of the times makes it
easy. Today I had a new client Joe Hollan from Victoria and
John Morgan from Celina Tx. Trust me when I say, I could see the
skepticism in their faces with the wind blowing so hard. Due to the
moon phase our best bite hasn't been until about 11 am but with the
heavy cloud cover all night I was hoping for an earlier bite.
Great day again today. It did not take long and John was on the
board with a really nice fish. Then Joe got on the board and they
traded punches but John was the first to limit out. Then Joe limited
and we played catch and release for awhile before deciding to go
look for some trout even though the conditions did not really
warrant it. Full limits by 8:30, not bad. Joe quickly got on the
board with a couple nice keeper trout but then we caught a few
undersize fish. On our last stop of the day John caught a nice 27
inch 7 lb trout. A trophy fish in any one's book. These guys were
great today and I really enjoyed fishing with them. I look forward
for the opportunity to fish with them again. John definately had to
the hot hand today. He had the largest red and the huge trout. Great
job Joe !!! Todays photo is of John with his nice trout and then the
final catch of the day photo. Once again in extremely tough
conditions we got it done. As Ive said before, these are the days
that I feel I really earn my money. |

04-20-08 |
Today was day two for the group at Redfish Lodge. Today I had Victor
Medina, Shawn Reed, and George Biggs. Not quite as easy for us
today. The heavy boat traffic from yesterday I think really hurt the
shallow areas we have been fishing. A lot more undersized reds
today. We did manage four solid fish ranging from 25-26 inches and
one keeper trout. We did miss some fish today. Those misses really
hurt when the bite is slow. I had a great time with these guys and I
look forward to fishing with them again. Todays photo is of Victor,
Shawn and George with three of the nice reds. |

04-19-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge again and I had Gene Knight
and his son Blake from Spring Texas. We started off drifting but our
water cleared up in a hurry so I changed gears and anchored up for
some redfish. We managed our limit of really nice fish by around 10
am. We then looked for trout but managed only one keeper and some
undersized.. I tried some croakers for the first time this year but
they are still two weeks away from being good. Blake had the hot
hand on the reds today catching the most, but Gene did catch the
biggest. These guys did a great job today. Todays photo is of Gene
with the largest red of the day a nice 26 in fish and the final
catch of the day photo. |
|

04-18-08 |
Well the front hit us about 5 am this morning and it was howling. A
lot of the guys actually cancelled their trips today. I was anxious
to get out there. I knew the wading would be tough early but I knew
with muddy water and strong north winds I could find the reds. Today
I had Dennis Yanowski, Henry Serry, and Barry Vyvlecka. They were a
little skeptical about the conditions but Henry stepped up and said
" I came to fish" so we were off. Although these guys are avid lure
fisherman I convinced to throw some shrimp under a popping cork for
a while. We got on some fish quick and boxed 3 before another guide
cut us off. We then made an adjustment and got on some more fish
then guess what?? Another guide cut us off there. We managed 7 nice
fish before I got frustrated and got out of there. Its bad enough to
get cut off by tourists that dont know better but other guides, that
is ridiculous. The winds died a little so we headed across to do
some wading. Dennis immediately hooked up a nice 6 lb trout then
followed it up with another nice 3 lb fish. We only managed three
fish on this wade but they were nice. The next stop we managed to
pick up our remaining two reds and Dennis topped off his "Texas
Slam" with a flounder. Dennis definately had the hot hand today and
kicked our butts. Limits of reds today and some really nice solid
trout. Considering the conditions when we started, one heck of a
day. Again when you have good fisherman like these guys they make me
look good. Great job guys !!! Todays photo is of Dennis with a nice
6 lb trout, Barry with one of our nice reds, and Barry with a turtle
that he foul hooked in the flipper. Henry had the camera today so
unfortunately we did not get any pictures of him. |
|
04-17-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge and I had Harry Holmes, Chris
Oliver and Jay Bonano from Houston. These guys are waders so it was
good to get back in the water today. Today we were greeted with
30-40 mph winds out of the south today. It blew all night and gutted
a lot of our water so our choices would be limited. Our first wade
was rather lengthy with not much production. We managed only two
keeper trout on the first wade. Our next wade was much better,
especially thanks to Jay. He managed a some nice reds and Chris
added one as well. We then made a slight adjustment into a little
pocket that I like just south of where we were and this was a great
wade. Tons of fish in this little area. Jay was keeping count and I
think he caught 29 reds on this short wade. Most just undersized but
a lot of action. Harry got in the game and came back with a nice
stringer with 6 or 7 trout and a red or two also. I think we ended
up with 5 reds and 12 trout. We really had the trout going at the
end but unfortunately due to time restraints we had to leave them
biting. I sure wish we could have stayed another 45 minutes or so. I
had a great time with these guys and they really knew how to fish
which is always nice. I have waders tomorrow but a strong front is
going to hit us. We may have to adjust our game plan. No photos
today, my battery was dead on my camera. Sorry guys. |
|
Thanks |
Well this past week was really hard for me. My father passed away on
Wednesday after a lengthy illness. For all those that called with
condolences I and my family thank you. I will always cherish the
times that my dad and I spent fishing together whether it was
trotlining for catfish on the San Bernard river or fishing down in
Matagorda where I grew up fishing with him. Before the diversion
canal was put in there was an area that fed off the Colorado river
into West Matagorda bay called Parkers Cut. This was one of my dads
favorite areas to fish and no one knew that area better. Man did he
catch a lot of fish there. As the sun comes up in the morning as Im
waiting for my clients, I often slip back to those days in Matagorda
with my dad, brother and sister. I was fortunate to have a dad that
shared the great outdoors with us and I will always be thankful for
what he did for us. I will miss him tremendously and I can only hope
if I join him in Heaven that he has not caught all the fish out
before I get there. |

04-13-08 |
Well as good as it was the last few days I knew going in today would
be tough. The winds died to nothing, the water cleared up and the
high pressure is still sitting on top of us. This equates to tough
conditions. Today I had Bruce Murray and Sherry Young. Bruce has
fished all over but has never caught a redfish. Sherry got on the
board first. Then Bruce boxed a nice fish slightly beating hers. But
Sherry was having no part of that. She then boxed a solid 26 1/2 in
fish. We caught some more undersized and yes we missed some and
broke a lot of fish off on shell again. We fished hard today with
fair results considering the conditions and the lost fish. I had a
great time with these two and I hope to have the opportunity to fish
with them again. Todays photo is of Sherry with the largest fish and
Bruce with his first redfish. Once again the ladies ruled !!! Sherry
had the most and largest. Great job Sherry !! |

04-12-08 |
Today I had a repeat client Matt Groff. The last time Matt came down
we had a tough day and fortunately he gave me a chance to redeem
myself. We had a two boat group today. The conditions could not have
been any better today for redfishing. We had a strong north wind and
muddy condtions so that meant drifting with shrimp and a popping
cork. I did anchor up first In an area a saw a lot of fish in
yesterday and we managed only two fish so i quickly changed gears
and starting drifting. What a morning !! It could not get any
better. We managed our 12 keepers by around 9:30 or so and released
some while waiting on the other boat to limit out. Matt's dad Warren
wanted me to remind everyone that he caught the first, was the first
to limit out, the most and I think the largest. Nice job Warren !!!
Todays photo is of the two boat group with 24 nice solid reds. |

04-11-08 |
I was fishing for Redfish Lodge again today and I had Ken Kawamoto,
Chris Tesorieso, and Gary Hornberger. I changed strategies today and
we drifted looking for trout today. Our tides have finally come up
and the trout are coming in with the higher tides. We managed 14 or
15 nice trout today and alot of undersize. Nice change of pace
today. The top picture is of Chris with a solid 6 lb trout and the
final catch of the day photo. These guys fished hard and were great.
Folks our trout bite is going to explode in a few weeks, trust me. |

04-10-08 |
Today I had a repeat client Randy McFadden. He brought his brother
Rod, Ken Flynn, and Bill Cody with him. Another great day today. It
was not fast and furious but steady enough to keep us busy. We
managed nine solid redfish today and a couple trout. And yes we
missed some and broke off some on shell as well. A great group
and we had a great time on the water. Todays photo is the final
catch of the day pic. |

04-09-08 |
Today I was fishing for Redfish Lodge. I had Doug Parsons and Allen
Rash from Florida. We had a short day today and had to be back at
the dock by 11:00 am. Fortunately our water and wind conditions
improved and it made a huge difference. We got our limit of reds and
we broke off quite a few on shell. Great day today and nice to be
off the water early. These guys were great and I had a great time
fishing with them. Todays photo is the final catch of the day. |

04-06-08 |
Today I was part of a multiple boat group today. I had Jim Saldivar,
Andrew Galvan, Jerry Rodriguez, and Dr. Juan Schiavone. The
conditions improved a little from yesterday but still tough. We
managed some nice reds but it was slow to say the least. We had the
best box of the three boats. Todays photo is of the guys with their
nice reds and Juan with a nice six pound trout. |
|
04-05-08 |
Today I had a group of guys celebrating a bachelor party for Jimmy
Board of Houston. Conditions always play a huge part in success or
lack of and today was no exception. No wind and clear skies after a
front are always the kiss of death and today was no exception. We
caught alot of small fish today but no keepers. A hard day with no
success. We fished hard but the conditions killed us. Hopefully we
will get some wind tomorrow. |

04-04-08 |
Today I had a new client Michael Bay from San Antonio. He brought
his daughter Caroline and his brother Norman Bay from New Mexico. We
got off to a quick start again today. Caroline got on the board
first with a nice red. We then put four fish in the box then once
again our bite shut down. We made numerous moves adding only one
drum and one nice 23 in trout. Then we got on some fish that were
hungry again and we finished our limit. We did miss a few fish today
but overall these guys did a great job. Once again the ladies
ruled. Although each caught their limit since Caroline caught the
first and the biggest she wins !!! Good job Caroline!!Caroline
really fished hard today and did a great job. Norman normally
fishes for freshwater trout on a fly rod and I think these big reds
ruined him. Todays photo is of Caroline with one of her nice reds
and the final catch of the day photo.
|

03-31-08 |
Today I had a new client Terry Dufrene from Spring Texas. Terry and
his wife Lynette had purchased a trip I donated to the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation ,a charity that I am heavily involved with that
is dear to me. Our first stop was great. We managed 4 solid reds in
a short time and I thought it was going to be another easy day. But
the winds starting howling and our bite shut off completely. We made
numerous moves and only managed one drum and some undersized reds.
We decided on one more move before calling it a day and it was a
good one. We barely got set up and boxed two more solid fish
completing our limit. It was no contest today. Lynette caught the
first, the most and the biggest. I think Terry is going to have a
tough time going fishing without her now. Once again the ladies
ruled !!! These were great folks and I hope I have the opportunity
to fish with them again. Todays photo is of Lynette with her first
ever redfish and of course the final catch of the day photo. By the
way, Terry's are the small ones on the end !!! |

03-30-08 |
Well today I had a good repeat client Nelson Knight and Jodie
Jameson. Well what a difference a day can make. The fish we have
been seeing and not catching finally decided to eat today. We had
our limit of very nice reds by 9 am or so. Jody got on the board
first with a nice solid 25 in fish. She then landed two more really
putting the pressure on Nelson. Nelson finally came through and did
manage the biggest of the day. Although he did land the biggest,
Jodie caught the first and the most so I have to say once again the
ladies ruled !!! Great job Jodie. Todays photo is of Nelson and
Jodie with a pair of nice fish and of course the final catch of the
day. We did drift a couple hours for trout but only managed some
undersized fish. We are just a couple good strong tides away and
some calmer winds and our trout action should explode. |
|
03-29-08 |
Well the winds condition to blow. The fish gods really need to give
us a break. Our catches the last few days have been ranging from 3-5
reds and we are having to work hard for those. We are seeing alot of
good fish but we are having a really tough time getting them to eat. |

03-25-08 |
Well the high winds continue. We have had sustained winds in the
30's with gusts reaching 51 all week. Folks this makes it tough.
Today I had the Scheurich family from Beaumont Texas. These guys are
avid outdoorsmen and Mr. Scheurich is doing a great job introducing
his kids to the great outdoors both hunting and fishing. These kids
were great and really fished hard. We managed 6 solid reds and
considering the conditions overall not bad. Todays photo is of the
final catch of the day. |

03-22-08 |
Today I had my good friend Sean Brown. Well the conditions did not
get much better and the fishing didnt either. We are so limited on
our options due to high winds and what we call in between tides.
Young Bo managed to catch a couple nice reds though. Todays photo is
of Sean assisting Bo with a really nice fish. Great job Bo !! |

03-21-08 |
Today I had one of my good repeat clients Ray Rodriguez. This time
he brought the kids with him. We were greeted with strong south
winds and cooler temperatures. The tides came up so I knew it would
not be as easy as yesterday. We worked hard today but only managed
four solid keepers. What a diference a day makes. Todays photo is of
the kids with their catch. |

03-20-08 |
Well the hard north winds that made it difficult for us yesterday
returned the favor and made it easy today. Due to the front our
tides fell out about 18 inches and the fish were gathered in our low
tide areas. Today I had Bob Wilson a good repeat client and he
brought two of his high school friends Steve Hulme and John Vehlow.
We made one short stop on the way to one of my favorite low tide
spots and picked up only one fish. As soon as I arrived at our
second spot, the pelicans showed us the way. They were hovering over
several good schools of fish. I eased into the area and it did not
take long. We quickly got our limit of really nice fish, a few
undersize and we released a few before relinquishing my spot to
another guide. As nice as it is to have easy limits by 9:30 am there
is a down side. I cant tell you how many hundreds of fish were
caught out of those schools today. We then made a few drifts for
some trout. One area we had constant action with double hook ups
most of the time. Unfortunately the fish were all undersized. We
only managed one keeper before calling it a day. Todays photo is of
three pods of reds schooling and coming to the top crashing bait.
When you click on the photo look to see if you can find all three
schools. The largest school is the easiest to see. You can actually
see one of the backs of a redfish out of the water. The second photo
is the final catch of the day photo. These were great guys and they
kept me laughing all day. |

03-19-08 |
Today I had Bill Johnson and his daughter Paige from San Antonio. I
was told that Paige always out fishes her dad so the pressure was on
her to maintain that winning streak. We were greeted with strong
north winds at 30 mph and gust to the high forties. The conditions
were tough to say the least. We worked hard today and managed four
solid reds and alot of undersize fish. We broke the largest fish of
the day off on the motor and missed a few as well. Well, Paige came
through once again. Paige not only caught the first keeper, but the
largest and the most fish today. She managed her limit today and
once again beat her dad. This young girl stuck it out in very tough
conditions and handled herself well. Great job today Paige !!!
Todays photo is of Paige with her first ever redfish and the final
catch of the day. I think dads smile says it all !!!! These are
great folks and I look forward to fishing with them again. Better
luck next time dad !!!! |

03-17-08 |
Well we were greeted with sustained winds at 30 - 35 mph today
gusting to 50. My original group decided to cancel and wait for a
little better conditions. I had another group that was ready to go
so we headed out. Today I had Kevin and Taylor Ochs from Russell
Kansas. Our tides FINALLY came up and I headed straight to the cove
where I have been seeing alot of fish but could not fish due to the
lower tides. Even better we had a short ride in the strong winds and
were in a protected cove that made for pleasant fishing even in the
horrible wind. It did not take long and young Taylor was quickly on
the board. He managed his limit before his dad got on the board. Mr.
Ochs was catching fish just not keepers. Finally the worm turned and
Mr. Ochs got in the game and managed his limit as well. Taylor
definately caught the most today but his dad edged him out for the
biggest of the day with a nice 27 in fish. We caught and released a
few more and called it a day. Short day on the water with great
results under horrible conditions. Todays photo is of the final
catch of the day. |

03-16-08 |
Today I had my good clients the Mahone's and the McCarthy's. Today
was a little better. I concentrated on redfish today. We had
extremely high winds today but that is March fishing. Had some good
misses today that definately hurt us. Michael had the hot hand today
catching his limit of reds including a nice 30 in oversized fish.
But the fish of the day or maybe a lifetime goes to Matt McCarthy.
Matt caught a nice 28 1/2 in trout that weighed in at 8 1/2 pounds.
There are guys that fish all their lives and dont catch one that
nice Todays photo is of Matt with his nice trophy trout that by the
way we did release and Michael with his oversized red. Great job
guys. |

Today I had Karen Littleton from Houston. Our plan today was to
drift with shrimp under a popping cork but no wind and current again
today. These tough conditions are killing us and Im about to pull
out what little hair I have left. The fish gods definately needs to
bring us some higher tides. I talked to 20 guides or so today that
fished all areas of our bay system and the best box I heard of was
five fish. Now thats tough. |

Today I had my good client and friend David Gallegos. Well the tough
conditions continued. We were fogged in for most of the morning and
then once the fog lifted we had zero wind and no current. And that
means tough fishing. Our tides are still in between and again that
is another killer. We found a flat that had some huge trout and
literally hundreds of reds but the water was too shallow for us to
stop in. Its so frustrating when you can see hundreds of fish and
cant do anything about it. |

Today I had Mr. Barfield and his son Alex. We had tough conditions
and managed only a couple keeper reds today. We are back to those in
between tides and that is killing us. We need some water. Todays
photo is of Alex with one of his nice reds. |

Well the weather was much better today. I had Gary Cleaver again
today. He brought his wife Kay and their good friends Ronnie and
Tonya Holt. The tides were low again today and starting to fall some
more when we headed out so I was pretty confident. Our first stop
produced nothing and we moved down about 800 yards and what a move
it was. Ronnie got on the board first with a nice 26 in fish. Then
Kay got in the game and topped Ronnie's with a nice 27 3/4 in fish.
Ronnie and Kay traded punches for a while. Ronnie would catch one
then Kay, then Ronnie then Kay. But then Ronnie's wife got in the
action and it was ALL ladies from that point on. It became a
spectator sport for the guys. I wont mention numbers, but the ladies
severely kicked the guys butts today. What a few hours on the water.
All of our fish today were studs as well. Nine out of our twelve
were 26 in or better. What a box of fish !! Great job by the ladies
catching not only the most but the biggest. I think its going to be
a long night for the guys. Better luck next time guys !!!!!!! |

Supposed to have my good client Gary Cleaver today but strong north
winds at 30-40 mph and cold weather kept us home. We will try again
tomorrow. |

Today I had the Ed Monroe group from New Braunsfels. As I got to the
dock this morning I was expecting the tides to still be extremely
low today but guess what? Mother nature fooled me and they came up
about 6 inches. That slight difference pushed all those fish we were
on yesterday out of there. So many fish one day and they are gone
the next. I guess thats why they have fins. I changed strategies and
we picked up some nice fish back of Mud Island. I probably should
