Green Water, Green Water, and the bite is on.  The redfish are stacked up and  and the trout bite has just turned on.  Book your trips now.

Today I had the Sumner's from Austin Texas. It was one of those days where we had to work hard. We finally got our limits of reds and then went looking for some trout throwing shrimp under a popping cork. We found a couple keepers and some undersize trout and a few more undersize reds. This was my first time to fish with these great people and they were great. Jeannie definately out fished her husband but he did catch the largest. These great people are still newlyweds and from what I saw they will have many years of happiness.
12-05-06 I recently had my good clients and friends Sharon and Steven Schultz from ABC in San Antonio. It was Sharon's birthday and Steven surprised her with a fishing trip. We were hit with fog early then it finally lifted slightly so we decided to head out. Unfortunately in 15 minutes the fog grew heavy and we got to a shoreline to wait it out. Unfortunately we were stuck there from about 7:30 am to almost noon before it lifted. In that time period Sharon often thanked Steven for a great birthday present !!!  One thing for certain I couldnt find a better couple to be stranded in the fog with. We worked hard and finally managed 5 solid redfish one short of our limit. We probably could have finished up but since it was late they had to head back to SA. Today was definately a lesson in safety and this experienced guide took no chances.

11-23-06

Well the redfish remain strong to say the least. The tides came up a little and our fish moved slightly but we are still on them. The last few days have been fast and furious. I had a chance to spend my Thanksgiving morning with a great family the Heaton's from Houston. I had a full boat with Barry and Anne and their kids Kimberly, Kristen, Eric and Evan. Another great day on the water. We got our 18 slot reds, one oversize and a really nice 23 in flounder and one trout. What a day !! The action was a little spotty due to heavy boat traffic in the area but still not bad and done by noon. We would get a triple on then the boats would crowd us and the bite would slow but we held our ground and the fish kept coming back. Evan had the largest fish with his nice 31 1/2 in fish but once again the girls ruled with Kimberly catching the most. Way to go Kim !!!  Great way to spend my thanksgiving. I have a lot to be thankful for. I get to do a job that I truly love. Happy Thanksgiving to all !! Todays photo is of Evan with his nice oversize red and of course the group photo.

11-18-06

I was fishing a multiple boat group again today and I had Ryan Zorn and Doug Hohertz. Due to the heavy boat pressure we had the guys meet us about 15 minutes earlier in hopes of getting to my honey hole early. The tides came up a little overnight but I was still confident of another early day. Wrong !!!!  All good things must come to an end. We did not pick up a single fish in the area that I had been working for 3 days. I still believe they were there just not eating. At noon we did not have a keeper fish in the box. But things can turn around in a hurry. I got on a nice school of big reds outside Quarantine shoreline. Ryan and Doug caught about 20 nice 23-27 in fish in about 45 minutes. We were definately top boat of the group again. Todays photo is of Doug with a nice red on and of course the group photo. And yes Ryan began "crying" about his arm hurting while fighting a nice red. What a great problem to have !!! I had a great time with these two and I hope I have an opportunity to fish with them again.

11-16-06

I was part of a three boat group today for Norac Inc. I had the pleasure of fishing with Ken Weber, Mr. Fontaine, and Mr. Doherty. And yes I went right back to the same area and yes the fish were still there. We picked up 8 of our reds there plus some undersize and 3 nice flounder. Our bite slowed due to heavy boat pressure so we made a slight move and got right back on them and got our last fish plus released some. There was a pot for biggest fish which I believe we won with a solid 27 in fish. Nice to have another early day. We had a noon dock time anyway but made it in early around 11. I had a great time fishing with these guys even though I had a New Jersey boy on my boat !!!! I look forward to fishing these guys again.
11-15-06 Tides remain extremely low. I went back to the exact same spot as yesterday with even faster results. I had only two people today and we had our limit of reds in about 15 minutes then played catch and release for awhile. We stayed there until another guide friend of mine got there then I let him have my spot where he quickly limited out as well.
11-14-06 Well our tides dropped dramatically about 18 inches overnight and that made things easy. I was part of a multiple boat group today and we had our limits of reds at the first stop in about 30 minutes and caught and released more. Things should stay this way for a couple of days.
11-13-06 Had a cancellation today.

11-12-06

Today I was fishing the second day of a two day group. What a difference a day makes. We had a hard front hit us about 4 am yesterday morning and the bite was on. Everyone did extremely well and most had limits of reds by nine or so. Today was alot different. As usual with most hard fronts by the next morning the water was almost 12 degrees cooler. Our water temp dropped from about 74 degrees to 62 degrees over night and this shut our bite down. The winds were not as strong but the change in water temp took its toll. We managed only a few fish today. Todays photo is of John Myers and his son with two nice reds. These guys were great sportsman and since they had a good day yesterday and a nice mess of fish they opted to play catch and release today. What a pleasure it is to fish with people like Mr. Myers that appreciate our resources and want to continue to ensure that his son will be able to enjoy our great fishing for many years. Lessons well taught.

11-10-06

Today I had one of my good clients Gary Cleaver from Amarillo and his friend Robin Passmore. Another good day on the redfish. We managed a nice limit of reds plus released some and 6 trout. Not many trout again today. The last norther certainly slowed down my trout bite. Todays photo is of another nice limit of fish. I really enjoy my time on the water with these two. I look forward to their next visit.
11-08-06 Since we had a great day yesterday Phil, Max and Tim opted to fish with me again today. Boy what a difference a day makes. For some reason we had this black cloud hanging over us all day. We just couldn't buy a break. We had our fair share of misses, lines breaking, breaking fish off on the motor, etc. You name it and it happened to us. But we stuck with it an finally got on a roll and got our limit of reds plus a couple releases. Today we only managed 5 or 6 trout.

11-07-06

Today I was part of another multiple boat group. I had Phil McAfee, Max Herring, and Tim Plumbee. What a great day. These guys could really fish and it didnt take long for them to get the hang of drifting with piggies. We got our limit of reds plus managed around 15 nice quality trout.

11-06-06

I just had one client today and I continued to concentrate on redfish. We had a couple nice fish in the box when I spotted one of the largest group of Jack Crevelle I have ever seen in the flats. They were busting menhaden everywhere and they must have covered two acres. The fish ranged anywhere from 20-50 pounds. We took our time to get positioned and waited until we found a pod of larger fish. It didnt take but a couple seconds and we had a large fish on. We were using a light trout rod and a Curado reel with 10 pound test line. An hour and fifteen minutes later we finally landed the nice fish that I estimate to be around 40 pounds. We took our time to revive the fish. Seeing that large school of fish in a feeding frenzy was priceless. I think the smile says it all !!!

11-03-06

Well we had another hard front blow in yesterday and the weather was miserable to say the least. I was fishing as part of a multiple boat group for LLOG exploration out of Louisianna. The guys that I had yesterday fish alot so they opted to head back in after an our or so. Most boats in the group did the same. The second day I had Kem Ducote and Teresita Angelo. After the disappointed weather yesterday these ladies were looking forward to getting some fish. The winds were still blowing but not as bad. The ladies stuck it out and it paid off. We caught some nice redfish and yes there was a trophy for largest trout and red. Kem brought home the honors for largest trout with a quality 26 in fish. Today photo is of Kem with her trophy winning fish and Teresita with one of her nice reds. Way to go ladies !!!
11-01-06 Today I had Randy Schulte party. We stayed in the flats and had another great day on the redfish.

10-29-06

Today I was fishing part of a multiple boat group for the redfish lodge. I was blessed to have had Susan Bruechner and her friends Noel and Cathy. The tides remained low and I would have bet the house and farm that the fish would have still been stacked in South Bay. We got their early and worked it hard but never got a bite. We worked hard but only managed a couple nice reds. One of those days where I had high hopes but just could not get on them. Todays photo is of Susan and Noel with a couple nice reds.

10-28-06

Today I had a repeat client Keith Walthall and his dad Hershell along with Jerrod Pruitt and Phil Holzman. Our tides dropped really low and really fast so it was no secret where I was headed (South Bay gut). Unfortunately there was already a couple boats in there so we had to wait to get positioned in the right place. But once we did it was on. Phil had his limit before the other guys even knew it. Everyone else finally got in the game and we had our nice limit of fish and released a few before heading to the dock. We should have finished ALOT sooner but Keith and Jerrod missed more than their fair share. I think it must have been their "girly" hook sets that I jokingly gave them grief about all morning. Another great group that I enjoy fishing with.
Well I apologize for the delay in reports over the last couple of weeks. The server I use got hacked into and played havoc with everyones websites. It took a few weeks to get things straightened out. I will catch up on as many of the days I can remember but to recap the last few weeks have been great. The redfish action has been awesome.

10-23-06

Well the winds calmed down some and the skies were clearer so I was optimistic about our chances today. I knew our bite would not be until later when the sun got up but these ladies were ready to get on the water. Today I had Mary Duwe and Jane Clark from Stephenville Tx. We started drifting with piggies first but only managed a couple undersize fish. The water was slow in warming and the winds stronger than I expected so I changed strategies and went to using cut mullet around a shell reef. It didn't take long and it paid off. These ladies managed their limit of nice 24-27 in reds as well as releasing a couple more. I'm glad we waited a day to fish the ladies. I had a great time fishing with these two and I look forward to fishing with them again. Todays photos are of Jane and Mary with fish on and of course the picture of their nice limit of fish.
10-22-06 I cancelled todays trip due to weather. We had strong north winds at about 30-35. I have two ladies that were dying to get out there but we decided to wait till tomorrow since I had an opening and hopefully we will have a better opportunity.

10-21-06

Today I was part of a multiple boat group. My pair decided they would sleep in for a couple hours and not hit the ramp until around 8:30 or so. I was fishing with Ed Skrljac and Steve Lichlyter from Houston. For those of you that know me you know how hard it was for me to not be on the water at daybreak. As I hoped, the temperatures warmed up and the sun was out and as predicted the day before it was back on. The first short drift we picked up a couple nice trout and one red. Ed had the hot hand early but Steve came on very strong at the end. By 11:00 am we had our limit of reds and 5 solid trout and released a few more reds then called it a day. And yes they did a lot of trash talking to the other groups. We spotted them a couple of hours on the water and still out fished them. These guys were a blast to fish with and they kept me laughing all day especially Ed. Todays photos are of Ed with a nice red on then Ed and Steve with the final catch. I look forward to fishing with these guys again. (maybe I should re-think this early morning stuff !!!)

10-20-06

Today I had some of my good clients the Baetens. It is always a pleasure to fish with them especially young Grayson. We were greeted with strong winds again today. overcast and cooler temperatures so I knew the bite would be slow. I continued to work the same area putting piggy perch under a cajun thunder. Due to the conditions there was a lot of boat traffic in the area and it definately hurt us as well. We fished hard and did manage 6 nice reds and missed a few. Overall considering the conditions, it was a pretty good day. Young Graysons first cast with his Spiderman pole hooked a nice red but it spooled him and broke off quickly. But he did manage to catch a couple nice reds on his own. I told them if the sun will stay out and the water warms up this area will be on in here tomorrow.

10-17-06

Today I had Andy Richard and Mike Stewart from Midland. We had to change our strategy today since there were no piggie perch available. We were limited to shrimp and cut mullet. We were greeted by heavy fog early so we worked a shoreline first with shrimp. As soon as the fog lifted we made a run to one of my favorite shell pads on a high tide. It didn't let us down. We managed our limit of redfish and missed quite a few. The bite was kind of finicky which resulted in our misses. We then spent some time looking for some oversize reds but only managed a few more slot fish that we released. But due to reports from other guides we had another good day. I enjoyed fishing with these guys even though "someone" hit me in the head trying his patented one handed hook set !! I look forward to fishing with these great guys in the future.

10-16-06

I had the day off today but back at it tomorrow. Yesterdays report mentioned the high tides. Todays photo is showing how high our tides are. The top photo is of an area across from Cove harbor that is usually dry. All this water is not rain run off but tidal water. The second picture shows that the water is almost completely over the boat docks which are usually about 2 ft. above the water. Even Billy (the white heron) is having a hard time finding dry ground.

10-15-06

The winds were still blowing today and rain forecasted but we got our trip in. I had a two boat group today. We had John and Barbara Crawford from Baytown, Paul Crawford from Houston and Lynn and Jeff Crawford from Nederland. I had the good fortune of having Lynn, Barbara and Paul on my boat. We drifted again using piggies. The action was not as fast as it had been but we are experiencing some really high tides and that has our fish scattered. Both boats did manage limits of reds with a few trout for good measure. Barbara Crawford definately put it on everyone. She definately had the hot hand today, but Lynn also managed her limit as well. And yes we had our fair share of misses and lost fish. Once again the ladies ruled !! I had a great time as always with this group and look forward to fishing with them again.

10-14-06

I had a five boat group today for Associated Builders and Contractors out of San Antonio. It is always a pleasure to fish this group. Not only are these people great clients but most have become good friends. We had strong north winds the day before and all night and most were skeptical about even getting out but we caught a break and the winds died and we were able to fish under some pretty decent conditions. I was fortunate enough to get to fish with two of my favorite ladies Sharon Schulz and Elsa Leonard. This group always have a pot for biggest red and trout and both these ladies are previous winners the last two years with me so the pressure was on. We drifted again today with piggies and it didn't take the ladies long. Sharon boxed two solid fish quickly then Elsa got in the game. These girls had their limit by 10:00 am and caught and released some more. And yes, they were doing a lot of trash talking to the guys (especially to my good friend Rick Smith). We got beat out on biggest red by a nice 30 in fish caught by Gary but Elsa won for the biggest trout so the streak continues. All five boats had good boxes of fish. I cant tell you how much fun I had with these two ladies. And once again the ladies ruled !!!! Todays photo is of Elsa with a nice action shot of a red on and their limit of reds and two trout. (sorry about the photos-new camera- !!!!)

10-13-06

Well today we were greeted with strong north winds at about 25mph. Today I fished with Greg Stephens and John Cadena of Houston. Knowing it would be tough today I concentrated on redfish and told them that the rule of the day was NO MISSES. If it bites you catch it !!!! They didnt let me down. We started around 8 am and they had their limit around 11:30. Fortunately for me these guys caught every fish that struck. They definately made me look good today. The conditions were horrible so we headed in as soon as we stuck the last red. Great job guys !!!!

10-07-06

Another great day again today. I fished with Ken Swick, Norman Koch, Hugh Wallace and Randy Yankowski. These guys fish have fished with me the past 3 or 4 years and I have a lot of fun fishing with them and always look forward to having them. They quickly reminded me that they had their limit of reds by 9:30 am last year. I assured them that due to the full moon that our best bite would not be until around 11:00 am. We got a good trout bite going early but only managed 3 or 4 reds by 11:00 or so. Then as predicted the bite turned on and we quickly limited out and released a few. Todays photo is of Ken with a nice red on and of course the group photo of the limit of 12 reds and 14 nice trout. Another great day of fishing and great company.
10-6-06 Today I was still fishing part of the big company group but had different guys today. Today I had Scott Clements, Keith Myrick, and Daniel Lawrence. I continued fishing the same area drifting with piggies and we got our limit of reds and released some and had some nice trout also. Scott won largest trout of the day for the company group. This makes two days in a row that we brought home that title. Scotts fish was a nice 25 1/2 in trout. Another good day on the water.
10-05-06 Today I was part of a big company multiple boat group. I continued drifting with piggies today and once again it proved effective. I fished with Ron Longhofer from Houston and David Castillo and Caesar DeHoyas from McAllen. They got their limits of redfish along with some nice trout and one flounder. Ron won the pot for biggest trout with a solid 20 1/2 in fish. These guys did great and they definately out fished me today. Beautiful day on the water capped off by a nice box of fish and great clients. Does not get much better.
10-04-06 The redfish were a little slow for me yesterday but I got back on them today. I had the pleasure to fish with Mr. Badgett and Mr. Brooks from Angleton Texas. This guys fish alot and it showed. We drifted with piggy perch today and managed our limit of reds plus released some. We also managed 5 or 6 trout also.

10-02-06

Today I had Ronnie Madison and his dad from Austin. Unfortunately they hit a hog just outside of Rockport and did some damage to their truck but they made it to the ramp on time and it paid off. We had our limit of redfish by 9:00 am and then played catch and release. We then attempted to go to the jetties to try to find some bull reds but it was just too rough. We then looked for a few trout but only managed one or two but still a good day on the water.
09-29-06

10-01-06

The next few days I fished for the Redfish Lodge. We have been concentrating on redfish and it has been paying off. Limits of reds have been consistant.
Sorry the reports have been a little late and no photos. Ive been so busy trying to get the renovations done on my condo and to top it all off I had my digital camera taken at the cleaning station. I have not had a chance to decide on what new camera that I want and finding the time to do that has been impossible so bear with me.
09-27-06 Today I had one of my frequent clients Paul Pereira from Spring Cyprus. We managed a limit of nice reds. Unfortunately there is no pic. I had my camera taken while at the cleaning stand.

09-23-06

Today I had a good friend and client Dallas Cloud of Moore Erection in San Antonio. This was a large 5 boat group. We were hampered by some REALLY strong winds and were very limited on where we could fish. We managed around 21 or so reds. I was fortunate to fish with Dallas, Donna and RB. Our bite was slow but we did manage a few fish. Donna is an avid fisherman and I hope I get a chance to fish with her under some better conditions. Todays photo is a group pic and Donna with her red.

09-16-06

09-17-06

I was fishing for the Redfish Lodge again and fished with Larry Bundren both days. We had a slow day the first day so I concentrated on redfish the second day. We had another 11:30 am return time so the pressure was on. We found some scattered reds and managed to get our limit of reds around 9:30 am. We then went looking for trout and managed 4 keepers before having to head in. Good way for these guys to end their trip.

09-14-06

09-15-06

The last two days I was fishing for Redfish Lodge. I had the pleasure of fishing with Rick Reischman, Val Neshyba and Chuck Richardson from Houston. The first day we fished hard and managed a decent box of fish and Chuck caught one nice red. These guys could really fish and that definately helped our cause. The next day was a short day since we had an 11:00 am return time. Our bite was definately a little slower.

09-12-06

09-13-06

The last two days I fished as part of a multiple boat group. Day one I fished with Dwight Bengston and Mike Francese from Houston. We had a lot of VERY bad weather in the area so we were very limited on our options. I opted to fish St. Charles bay where I would not be too far from safety. We managed 4 solid reds and a few undersize fish before getting run off the water by lightning and rain around 11:30 am. Considering the conditions and be very limited to where we could go it wasn't too bad.

The next day I fished with Dwight again along with Dennis Hendon and Alan Reynolds. The weather was a little more stable today so I headed back down south. We managed around 15 nice trout with Dennis catching the biggest at 21 inches. We then went looking for some redfish and managed 3 solid fish and a few undersize. Much better day today and of course we had our fair share of misses but these guys did well. I really enjoyed fishing with all of these guys and they were great people to be around. Todays photo is of Dwight, Alan and Dennis with their reds.

09-11-06

What a lucky guy I am. I finally had a day off and got to spend the morning with someone very dear to me, Nita Soliz. You may remember her from previous reports with her first Kingfish and her first limit of trout. Today we were looking for her first redfish and it didn't take her long. She caught her limit within the first hour and hooked her first fish within the first 15 minutes. She caught some nice fish in the 26-28 in range. Todays photos are of Nita in action and her FIRST redfish. Looking at that huge smile says it all. Its not hard to see why I like fishing with her soooo much !!! Way to go Nita !!!!

09-10-06

Today I had my good client and close friend Art Troscher from Houston. We headed out for a short trip in search of a few redfish. I headed to St. Charles and used live crab for the first time this year. We quickly got on some fish and it didn't not take long to land some nice fish. There was also some nice trout mixed in with the redfish. We had a few mullet and caught a nice 23 in trout and lost one about the same size and landed a couple others that were 17 in. Wish I had a livewell full of piggies. Todays photo is of one of the nice reds and an action shot of a good red on. Art is an avid fisherman and it is always a pleasure to fish with him. Art is an avid lure chunker but occasionally I can get him to come over to the dark side and throw some bait. Im looking forward to tomorrow. I have the day off before another long stretch and Im getting to fish with my favorite girl Nita Soliz.

09-09-06

We had a multiple group today from Halo Dist. out of San Antonio. I had the pleasure of fishing with Jeff Saenz and Bobby Levime. We concentrated on trout first and managed 10 or so and alot of undersize fish. We then went looking for some redfish and had a fast bite going for a few minutes. We managed to box 3 solid fish and broke off a couple and missed a couple then we lost the school and it was time to head in. These guys were a blast to fish with and we laughed and had a great time all morning. Im looking forward to fishing with these guys again.
09-08-06 I was fishing for the Redfish Lodge again today. I opted to stay inside today and work the area I had the trout bite on yesterday. For some reason the fish were there again but most undersize. We had an early day today and had to quit by noon. We managed 12 trout and 2 reds.

09-07-06

Today I was fishing a group for the Redfish Lodge. I was fishing with Phil Begley from Tennessee and Larry from New York. We headed to the surf today. We were hampered by a west wind which is the worst for fishing the surf. Tons of bait everywhere but the trout where a no show out here. We did manage to get our redfish and had a fast and furious bite on them for about 30 minutes or so. Phil was definately on a roll on the redfish. We then headed back inside and on our last stop had a nice trout bite going. We picked up another 10 or 12 trout in a few minutes and had to leave them biting. I really enjoyed fishing with these guys. Todays photo is of some of the nice reds we caught in the surf.

09-03-06

Im still in the surf due to the calm conditions. It was not as fast and furious today and it has been the last two days but we managed to get our fish. We had a light norther blow through just about the time we made our first stop and I think that is what slowed our bite down. Today I had Greg Parker and his girlfriend Janine Wilson from San Antonio. This was a great couple and I really enjoyed fishing with them. They had been with a couple guides before and did not have too good of an experience so hopefully we renewed their confidence in professional guides. We managed our 20 nice trout and 4 solid reds. And yes once again the ladies ruled. Janine had top honors for first fish, most fish and biggest fish. Good job girl !!!! Todays photo is of Janine's first redfish and the catch at the end of the day.

09-01-06

The winds have died and you know what that means. I headed to the surf today. Today I had Virgil Rosser and Bill Johnson from San Antonio and Greg Romer from St. Louis Missouri. The trout bite was a little slow until around 9 am and then it was on. We found a nice school of reds and we had double hook ups on redfish for a while. We got our limit and released quite a few. We still needed 5 more trout and made one more stop and completed our limit of 30. Not bad being done before noon. This was Greg's first time to salt water fish and I think we ruined him. He caught on quickly and was definately the top man on the redfish. These guys were great to fish with and I had a blast with them. I look forward to fishing with them again.

08-28-06

Well the strong winds still remain the story. It has really been cranking down here all day and night and today was no different. I had a good friend of mine Russ McAfee from Houston and his friends Kyle Atkinson and Mark Williamson. These guys are all professional firefighters in Houston. We knew the trout bite would be tough under the conditions but we managed a nice box of fish. We ended up with 18 or 19 solid keeper fish and lost our fair share. Kyle had a nice red on but it slipped the hook right at the boat. These guys were great to fish with and I definately had a good time today. Todays photo is of Kyle and Mark with their catch and Kyle's action shot with the redfish that got away. The last photo is of my good friend Paul Brown of the Redfish Lodge. Unfortunately he had the tough job of fly fishing today under some very windy conditions but it was a great photo op for me.

08-26-06

Another great day on the water. I was fishing with Chris Gillman and his girlfriend Jaime Stewart from Houston. Since Chris is an avid outdoorsman he is introducing Jaime to one of his favorite past times of fishing. I was thrilled to be a part of her first salt water experience. We had alot of action again today. The undersize trout are still killing us but makes for alot of action. We managed a nice box of about 15 trout and one nice red and yes missed and lost our fair share. Chris got out to a quick start but once Jaime got the hang of it she caught up quickly. I had an awesome time "teaching" Jaime and Chris and really enjoyed our time on the water. I really wanted to put Jaime on her first redfish. She had a nice red on for a long time and unfortunately we broke it off right at the boat. I guess thats her first hard luck fishing story. But she did manage this largest trout of the day this nice 22 in fish. This was a great couple and its always a pleasure to see two people who really enjoy being with each other. Todays photo is of Chris with this nice 25 in redfish and Jaime with her 22 in trout. You go girl !!!

08-25-06

Today I had Dan from the Lighthouse Inn. We were only going to fish for a couple hours and he made it pay off. This guy can really fish. He caught his limit plus a lot of undersize fish. He also managed a nice 30 in red that we released. Todays photos are of some of the action plus the nice redfish that we released.
08-20-06 Another great morning for me. I had the great pleasure to fish with Nita Solis this morning. You may remember her from the pic with her first ever kingfish. We went out for a couple of hours and my trout bite remained strong. It did not take her long to get her limit. Unfortunately she had borrowed my camera the night before and got the settings messed up so her pics did not come out. I can assure you she will be fishing with me a lot.

08-19-06

Day Two-I stuck with my game plan for day two of the tournament. Get our 4 twenty inch trout and then get our reds. Again we were on the trout fast and furious. Had about 20 keepers again in 30 minutes or so and left them biting again. Where are all these fish when you need them?? Today we had better success on the reds. We managed 4 good solid reds and that was more than enough to vault us into second place. Of course my goal is always first but to come in second with all of the top guides in our area was still satisfying. Julia and Brian did an awesome job and they definately made me look good. Todays photo is of a double hook up on trout. Sorry not more pictures but it slips my mind when I'm tournament fishing. I'm in a hurry to find bigger fish. I hope I get to fish these two in the tournament next year !!!!
08-18-06 Day One-Today was day one of the Cystic Fibrosis Cast for the Cure Tournament. It is definately my favorite tournament to fish. This year I was fishing with my good friends Julia Fox and Brian Olsen from the Lighthouse Inn. This is a catch and release tournament and we could measure in 4 trout and 4 reds a day. We caught our 4 nice trout quickly. We managed about 20 keepers in the first 45 minutes and finally got 4 twenty inch fish. I then decided to look for our 4 reds. Without them we wouldn't stand a chance. Unfortunately we found only one. We were in third place after day one but so far behind first we were shooting for second after day one.
08-16-006 I had another one of my favorite clients today the Baetans from Houston. You have seen 3 yr old Grayson on my report section several times. We caught a lot of fish today but keepers were hard to come by. I think we managed around 15 nice trout and went through 20 dozen piggies to get them. Proof of how many undersize fish we caught and the porpoises ate us up. Michael had several nice fish on that were soon lunch for the porpoise. Once again the ladies put in on the guys. Tammy and her mom definately put the most keepers in the box.
08-14-06 There will be no reports for the next two days. I grew up fishing in Matagorda and one of my clients is wanting to learn this area and has hired me to show him around for a couple of days. We will be doing more running than fishing but Im looking forward to showing him around where I grew up fishing. It will definately bring back a lot of great memories of my dad and I.

08-13-06

The winds remained steady all night and it was blowing around 20 mph all day with some gusts probably reaching 30 at times. Our game plan changed due to the wind and some of the spots Ive been fishing were blown out. Today I had Paul Taylor and his daughter Brooke. Brooke has not fished much and I was looking forward to putting her on some fish. You would not have known that it was Brooke's first time to trout fish. She was a quick learner and it did not take her long to get in the groove. She definately put it on her dad and I. They managed around 15 trout and Brooke caught her limit of 10. Unfortunately Paul and I did not do our part and we were a few short of our limit. We did catch a lot of 14 7/8 in fish. Way to go Brooke !!!! These were great people and I look forward to fishing with them again.

08-11-06

Well the winds increased today but my game plan stayed the same. I pretty much stuck with the same pattern that I had yesterday. Jim and Drew did a great job again today. Jim got off to the hot start but Drew came back strong in the end. Another great day. We managed our limits of trout and were in by noon before the heat got unbearable. I really enjoyed the fishing and the conversation with these two guys even though they are from Aggie country.  Go Notre Dame !!!!

08-10-06

Today was the first of two days with Mr. Giles and his friend Drew from Austin. We had another great day today. We caught a lot of fish today. A lot more undersize than yesterday but we still managed our limit and had a lot of fun catching. These guys learned a lot today on having patience enough to let the fish take it before setting the hook. I expect they will be on their A game tomorrow.

08-09-06

Today I had Naveed Usman, Humza Usmann and Asim Ahmed from Austin. Im definately glad to have piggies again and today showed. We caught fish at every stop. Eleven year old Humza definately put it on these guys. He smoked them today. We ended up with 25 trout and 4 mangrove snapper before running out of bait. A great day on the water.
08-07-06 Today I had Ronnie Madison, his wife and 3 sons. Today we were limited to croakers since there were no piggies to be found and we definately could tell the difference. We found fish at almost every stop but the bite was slow. I had 4 piggies left in the livewell from yesterday and Mrs. Stevens caught a nice trout on every one. We had a good bite going at the end but due to time constraints we had to leave them biting. This was a great family and you can tell how close they all were. I hope to see them again soon.

08-05-06

I often tell my clients how lucky I am to be doing a job that I truly love and how much I enjoy my "office" view each morning. Just when I think it cant get any better it does. One of my good friends Damisella Brown was in town with a her friends Laurie, Laura, Amy and Monica. I was already booked for the day but I had a chance to run them out for a few hours in the afternoon after my morning trip. We managed a couple reds but the girls were just glad to get out on the water. As you can see I was surrounded by some lovely ladies and I can assure you I enjoyed every minute of it. Of course I had to include the group photo and one of Amy fighting a nice red.

08-05-06

Today I had a three boat group with my good client and friend Rick Smith of Keller-Martin from San Antonio. Overall we had a great day. We had somewhere in the area of 90 trout and 5 reds. Unfortunately my group fell a little shorter than the others but we still managed some nice fish. There were two fish pots for largest red and trout. The largest red was one by Johnny Ebrom of Karnes City and the largest trout was caught by Ron Litwornia of San Antonio. Todays photo is of the group with the nice bunch of fish and Ron and Johnny with their money winning fish. Everyone had a great time and we looked forward to this group again next year.

08-03-06

Today I had a referral from one of my good clients Greer Wright. I had the pleasure to fish with Mark Maxwell, Eric Holcomb, Chris Smith, and Paul Hudspeth from San Antonio. We concentrated on trout today and had a very good day considering the windy conditions again. I had a game plan going in and stuck with it and it paid off. Knowing that it would not be fast and furious I found a couple areas holding some nice fish and we stuck it out. At the end of the day we had a great box. Eric won the big trout pot today while Paul won the most catches. Paul definately brought his A game today. Todays photo is of Chris Smith with his first flounder and the group with their final catch. I had a great time with these guys and I hope I get the opportunity to fish with them again.

08-01-06

Today I had a new client Jobeth Thomas and her son Franklin from San Antonio. We are still plagued by sustained winds of 25 mph. Due to the wind I stayed after the redfish today. It was not fast and furious but we managed to get our limits. This was Jobeth's and Franklin's first redfish. With the tough conditions we had I was pretty proud of our box today. These were great people and I really enjoyed fishing with them. Todays photo is of Franklin with his first ever redfish which happened to be the largest of the day, 27 inches. The second is of JoBeth and Franklin with their limits on nice fish.

07-29-06

I struggled again yesterday but got back on them today. I had one of my favorite clients today Mark Jensen from Houston and he brought his friend Frank Contreras. Mark is always a pleasure to fish with. Marks last trip with me was in the surf where it was fast and furious. Having to fish inside I knew it would be hard to follow his last trip. The trout bite was slow but we worked hard for around 14 fish and then got on a school of reds that saved the day. We caught seven in about 15 minutes or so with Frank catching the largest red that was a solid 27 in fish.
07-28-06 What a difference a day makes. The low pressure system moved out and our bite returned. I was part of a 5 boat group today and all groups and quick limits of trout. Most were done be 9 am. Unfortunately we all spend the next three hours looking for redfish but we were unable to find anyway. But still a great day on the water.

07-27-06

Again another tough day due to weather. We were greeted with sustained winds of 20mph with gusts to 30.  Due to the conditions I decided to look for redfish. We managed only a couple reds and one nice 24 inch trout. We did break off a couple nice reds also. Todays photo is of young Carly Doyle with her nice trout and red that she caught. This girl does it all. She is an avid hunter killing two deer last year and now is working on her fishing skills. I love seeing our youth spending time in the great outdoors and commend her dad and grandfather for giving her the opportunity.  Way to go Carly !!
07-26-06 I had a great couple today. I had the pleasure of fishing with Don and Shirley Ellisor from San Antonio. We had rain and heavy thunderstorms again all night. Upon their arrival I still had my boat on the trailer. I explained the conditions were horrible and fishing would be extremely tough but they wanted to give it a try. We worked hard and only managed a few fish and yes the story continues-the ladies ruled. Shirley beat out Don. I hope I get a chance to fish with these two awesome people again under some better weather conditions.
07-25-06 Well weather has been the story. Heavy thunderstorms and a lot of lightning in the area. I had a 4 boat group today but we cancelled due to weather. It turned out that we might could have got some fishing in but we erred on the side of safety.
07-23-06

07-24-06

I took two much needed days off to be with family.

07-22-06

I fished as part of a 35 multiple boat group today. We headed back to the surf and had another good day.
07-21-06 Headed to the surf today with Spence Stephens and his two sons. We made the long run to Cedar Bayou but unfortunately we had one with motion sickness shortly after anchoring. It wasnt that rough but the surf can do that to you. We fished inside but the bite was slow to say the least. We managed 10 or so nice fish before calling it a day.

07-20-06

Today I had the Maurin family from San Antonio. We did not go to the surf today but stayed inside and worked the Quarantine Shoreline. We managed a good box of fish and caught tons of undersize fish. And yes once again the ladies ruled. Betty definately put in on the guys. While the guys were catching all the undersize fish she was catching dinner.

07-19-06

Today I had one of my good clients Paul Pereira from Cypress. We initially headed to the surf but quickly turned around due to rough seas. We struggled inside and managed only a few trout. Around 10:30 the winds died and we headed back to the surf. As soon as we set the anchor it was on. In a short time Paul had his limit and caught and released about 20 more. Nothing better than a surf bite. He literally had a fish on the second the bait hit the water.

07-18-06

Today I  had Sally Bullock and her sons and friends. We headed to the surf but once we got anchored after a short time we had one with motion sickness so we headed back inside. It wasn't rough but sometimes the surf just affects people in a bad way. We did manage one good bite and boxed some nice fish and as usual had quite a few misses. Overall a good day and these were great people to fish with. I am looking forward to fishing with them again. And yes once again the ladies ruled !!! Kristin (in the green) definately kicked the guys butts. Her boyfriend Rhett is not going to live this down for awhile !!!

07-16-06

Today was a fun day for me. I had Julia, Nita and Michelle three of my favorite girls from the Lighthouse Inn. We had a short day and were looking for some king fish. We had a quick early bite but after the first hour or so it slowed down dramatically. We managed a few fish and lost our fair share for some reason. Todays photo is of Nita with here very first fish. Hard to believe she has been here in Rockport this long and has not caught a fish until today. Way to go Nita !!!

07-15-06

Today was day two of our group from JD Consultants. We headed back to the surf today but we were hampered by a west wind. When its bumpy and you have a west wind it makes keeping your bait in the right location difficult and that is the key to the surf. When we accomplished that we had a good bite. We did manage some nice trout and a couple of reds. And once again the female out fished the guys !!!

07-14-06

I was part of a multiple boat company group today and I had Neal Nygaard from La Porte and Tony Murfin from Portland. Once we got started Tony was telling Neal and I of his bad luck fishing and that he has not caught any keeper fish yet. I was hoping we could change this streak. Fortunately we did. It was not fast and furious today but Neal and Tony managed some nice trout. Tony also caught a mangrove snapper and this nice 28 in redfish that is in todays photo. I think his bad luck is over especially since I think he won the big fish prize for the day.

07-13-06

I fished as part of a multiple group today for Alamo Transformers. I was fortunate to get Randy Zella and his son Dillon, Chris Walthall, and Jerald Breaux. We got off to a quick start and had a good bite going early. The small fish were eating us up though. We had to cull through them to get the keepers but that is normal for this time of year. Our bite slowed and then it was back to grinding for them but we managed a nice box. We ended up with 25 good fish today and as usual turned loose a lot of fish that just made that 15 in. line but due to potential shrinkage we released them. Young 11 year old Dillon put it on dad and the rest of the guys today. Not only did he catch the largest fish of the day but I think he caught the most keepers as well. Nice job Dillon !!!!

07-12-06

Wow-What a great day today. I had the opportunity to fish with Jeff and Lynn Crawford from Nederland today. We started off a little slow but missed some fish. This was Lynn's first time fishing with live piggies and it took her awhile to be "patient" enough to let them take it. But once she got the hang of it she did well. We got our limit of trout by 11:00 and caught a lot of 14 7/8 in fish. We then set our sites on redfish since I located them the day before. Unfortunately we did not find them today. But Jeff did catch a fish of a lifetime. He caught this amazing 30 in trout. We took a few quick pics and then took our time to revive her and turned her loose.  Lynn had mostly caught brim before so I think we ruined her today !!!!! They were great people and I had a great time fishing with them.

07-11-06

Today we changed gears and looked for redfish. I was fishing with Robert Rodriguez. This group are all affiliated with the Chili's Restaurant chain. Our day started a little slow but I warned them this was probably going to be the case due to the full moon we had last night. I told them the bite should get good around 11:00 am and I was right on. We located a nice school of fish and it was on. We easily got our limits with the largest fish going 26 in. and we released several others and left them biting. Overall a great day on the water.

07-09-06

Today I had a good friend and client Greer Wright and his two daughters Madison and Mallory. This is the second time these girls have fished with me and they are learning quickly. We headed to the surf again today. It was a little on the rough side today but the girls did very well. We had a short day today but still managed a nice box of trout, a red and one spanish mackeral. The photo is of Mallory's (on right) first redfish. It was a nice 26 in fish. It put up a great fight and she hooked, fought and landed it with no help. Great job Mallory !!!

07-08-06

FINALLY the rains have stopped. I had a great group of guys from San Antonio today. This was my first time to fish with David Flores and these guys and we had a great time. We headed to the surf and we were well rewarded. We had limits of trout and reds and released a lot more. Amazing how fast things can turn around when the weather cooperates. I look forward to fishing with these guys again. Todays pics are of a double hook up on a couple nice redfish and the nice limits at the end of the morning.
07-07-06 Todays report is not much different than the last 4 days. We got a late start due to weather delay but did manage to get a few hours in before the next downpour. I had Randy Riley and his son from San Antonio and Bruce Head and his son from Marshall Tx. The kids definately put in on the dads today. We caught a lot of fish but most undersized. We did manage around 10 or so keepers thanks to the kids.
07-04-06 Gosh the rain will not stop for some of my best clients. I had Steven and Sharon Schulz from San Antonio today. We managed 9 or 10 trout before getting run of the water with rain and lightning. The next day was not much better and we did not get to fish much at all. After the first heavy rain Sharon was smart enough to head to the hotel. Steven was determined to get some fishing in but just as we got back out the sky fell open again and we got flooded out. I think Im starting to get webbed feet !!!
UPDATE: I will be putting my new boat in service tomorrow. We made some design changes on the 23 ft. Haynie and it is awesome. This boat cant get much better. I upgraded to a 225 hp Mercury.
07-03-06 I was supposed to have one of my favorite clients the Baetans. I always look forward to fishing with 3 year old Grayson. It was his birthday today but unfortunately heavy rains prevented us from fishing.
07-02-06 The weather is killing us. I had the Brian Christianson group today and again we dodged the weather and were unable to fish alot of the areas that have been holding fish. Again we worked hard for around 15 trout or so. Although the rain is hurting us now it will definately benefit us in the long run.

07-01-06

I had one of my good clients Greer Wright and his daughters today. We dodged bad weather most of the morning which hampered our efforts. The girls did manage a few nice trout. They will be back in a week and hopefully the weather will be more cooperative.
06-30-06 Today I wish fishing for another guide for a two boat trip. The weather conditions were horrible and the fishing reflected so. We did catch a lot of undersize trout but managed only 12 keepers. What a difference the weather can make.

06-29-06

Today I had Bobby and Brannan Thompson who are two avid bass fisherman from Oklahoma. Again we enjoyed quick limits of nice quality trout in the surf. We then shifted gears and went to the flats to look for some redfish on topwater. We caught a couple small fish and some more keeper trout on topwaters. Another great day in the surf. Todays picture is of Bobby and Brannan with a double on.
06-28-06 Another great day in the surf today. I wish fishing for redfish lodge and we enjoyed quick limits of good quality trout.

06-27-06

Today I had a new client Barry Horowitz and his wife Helena from Houston. This was Barry's first trip out since major hip surgery. We had an excellent day and managed near limits by 11:00 am. Helena got out to a great start and was really putting it on Barry but he came back strong at the end. This couple was a true pleasure to fish with and Im looking forward to fishing with them again.
06-26-06 Today I had one of my good clients and friend Dallas Cloud from San Antonio. We also had Michelle Seward, Jerry Thurman and Charlie Winget. We started in the surf today and battled a tough west wind most of the early morning. We only fished about a half day but did manage 15 or 17 nice trout.
